Ram ProMaster City

If you've got tools, materials or workers to get into tight spaces, you'll find the fuel-efficient Ram ProMaster City cargo van is well-suited for the task.

Though full-size vans are incredibly useful, there are times or situations when you might want a van that's smaller and has lower operating costs. If that's the case, you'll want to check out the Ram ProMaster City.

While this small van can't measure up to larger vans in terms of capability, it can still transport you, your crew (in the available five-seat wagon version), tools, cargo or materials into some pretty tight spots. It also offers both a larger cargo hold and greater payload capacity than most of its compact competitors.

Considering its significantly better fuel economy compared to big vans and a nimble size that lets you easily navigate crowded urban streets, the Ram ProMaster City is a compact cargo van that makes the most of its diminutive dimensions.

Current Ram ProMaster City The Ram ProMaster City is offered in two distinct body styles; a two-seat cargo model and a five-seat passenger (Wagon) version. Each also comes in a choice of two trim levels: a base model (called Tradesman in cargo guise) and a better-equipped trim known as the SLT. For power, the ProMaster City relies on a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 178 horsepower. It drives the front wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Entry-level models come standard with 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, air-conditioning, cloth upholstery, power front windows, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a front overhead storage bin, a 60/40-split folding rear seat (Wagon only), Bluetooth, and a four-speaker stereo with a USB port.

Step up to the SLT trim levels and you also get body-colored bumpers and mirrors, power outside mirrors with heating, rear privacy glass, upgraded cloth upholstery, driver-seat lumbar adjustment, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control and a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen interface.

Notable optional features include second-row power windows, a six-speaker stereo, heated front seats, a rearview camera, a cargo partition, a rear window defroster, a navigation system (in combination with the 5-inch touchscreen) and satellite radio.

Total cargo capacity is 131.7 cubic feet, a number that beats the space in most all other compact van models handily. With 48.4 inches between the rear wheelwells, there's room for full-size sheets of plywood or a standard-size pallet. A pair of 60/40-split rear doors (which can swing open 180 degrees) and a low step-in height make loading and unloading a good bit easier.

On the road, you can expect the Ram ProMaster City to move out smartly, delivering good fuel economy (a combined mpg somewhere in the mid-20s) in the process. A tight turn radius also makes it feel considerably more agile than you'd expect from a commercial vehicle.

Used Ram ProMaster City Models The Ram ProMaster City has undergone only a few changes since its 2015 introduction. Worth noting is that all models received thicker carpeting for better noise insulation in 2016, while base models added Bluetooth capability to the standard equipment list later that same year.
