2004 Nissan Altima

Nissan Altima Consumer Reviews By Year:
2004 Nissan Altima

NEW FOR 2004

The Altima's winning formula continues with few changes. Smoke is a new exterior color choice, and four-cylinder models meet stricter federal emissions standards. Models with California emissions are now classified as Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (PZEV).

Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, excellent handling, roomy and comfortable interior, high level of features, distinct styling.

Low-grade interior materials, considerable road noise, overboosted steering, no stability control.

So far so good. For the money I spent, very satisfied. Shopped around for quite a while before the purchase.

Car has exceptional ride and smooth handling. Power isn't too bad for a 4 cyl. car.

I love this car. The interior looks kind of like a motorcycle. Can't beat the heated seats and the steering wheel radio controls. I love how it's only a four cylinder but drives like a 6. Good pickup

Best compromise between a "family" sedan and a sports sedan I have ever seen or owned. Love to drive it.

Mine is a 2002 Altma with everything on it. The car is great and alot of fun to drive. I wish Nissan had put more into the inside of the car. It is not as comfortable on long trips as my Jeep is.

Affordable Style!
I bought our Altima brand new and I though it was the best choich of the bunch. Pricing was great and the looks and styling of the car were even better. Anyone looking to drive a maxima or infinity for 8 to 12 thousand less. This is the place!

Awsome Car !!!! 2004 the BEST!!
I just got this car yesterday and so far I love it. I got the 4 Cyl. w/leather equipped. Its really nice and slick. The seating is much more comfortable than the 2003 model and it seems a little wider for some reason. I got it for $23,000 flat price with all the good options, well for the most part, I think its a great buy for the money!

Excellent Altima
I had a 2000 Altima which I did not like at all. My 2003 model is head and shoulders better in pickup, perfomance, appearance and design. I have the touring model, which is a showstopper, literally. A man stopped me in the street to ask what the car was, so taken was he with its appearance. The handling and performance match the looks. Lots of back seat and trunk room, too.

rides like butta
Next to the Honda Civic this is the best car for your dollar. You get an excellent & very comfortable city and highway ride. Excellent feedback in steering and handling. Top notch sound system w/ Boise. Eye turning exterior style. A very heavy a-la-carte package yet resonable base balances it out.

2004 Altima
I bought the car for my wife two weeks ago and the car is perfect for her. The 2.5L has plenty of both city/highway power, the interior is excellent with the leather and it has lots of room for five. The outside can only be discribed as beutiful. Sitting next to my 2003 ford taurus (company car) there is no compairing. I would tell anyone looking at this car to buy/lease it.

Nissan Altima-good driving
I did experience a problem with the computer ABS when I first purchased car that took awhile to be repaired, but Nissan did make good, and I have not had further problem. Great sound system but maybe a little to powerful for car since it cause the rearview mirror to vibrate.

Nissan Altima
I love the car's looks, especially the rear view. We had aftermarket leather seats installed, but am happy with the other interior. I traded a Buick Century for this and am most disappointed in the Altima's ride. I even lowered the tire pressure to try to help. Also, my Century V6 use to get about 32mpg on the road and Altima 4cyl only gets about 28mpg.

a poor man's BMW
I was one of the very few who bought this car when it was available from Oct'02. I compared this car against Acura 3.2 TL Maxima 2002 and decided that this car is the one for me. When I test drove the car I was amazed @ the pick-up and handling.I have driven BMW 3&5, Mercedes c-320, Cadiilac CTS, Acura 3.2 TL, Audi 4.5. This car for the price you pay, offers about 80% the performance of these cars @ about 55% of their price. My friend who bought an Audi 4.2 for about 55000 dollars had this much to say. "My car is twice as costly as this Altima, but it does not give twice as much performance as this".

Speed, Comfort, and Reliability (if past years are proof), I love this car.

By susan persina on May 25 @ 3:00 am
I have had to have this car towed away twice for not starting. I have never been imformed of the recalls either with one being problem starting engine.I am now driving my car around with washable paint on it saying this car is a lemon and it has many recalls on it. Since they would not trade this car back for me I will continue driving it the way it is. It gets parked 5 days a week in Trump Taj Mahal parking garage where everyone can see it also plus the 45 minute drive to work everyone notices me. Until I get some satisfaction I will be driving around like this. Who would think having a brand new car and it not starting.

By lauraboop on February 18 @ 3:00 am
massive excellence
The power under the hood tranfers to you as the driver and gives you this over whelming sense of one. This car is a car made for the "Gods" and Nissan definately made a car worth reproduction year after year. Very smooth ride with tons of style to spare its passengers.

Just love it
Own in for about 3 weeks now. Just love it. Fun to drive, very roomy, very good milage(30-33 on highway, 23+ in city), leather is good, Bose audio is awesome. No need to say it's sexiest looking car in that price-range.

fun and rommie at a resonable cost
I test drove may cars (accord, acura, passat) and found this was by far the best car for the dollar. I first drove the 4 cyl. version and really liked it, but then I decided to venture out and try the 6 cyl. version and I fell in love, I had to have it. After 1 month I still cannot be Happier about my decision

Nissan Not So Happy
While the car is stylish, the seating is not comfortable for long drives. The 4 cyl has plenty of power for highway passing, and keeping it in 3rd while city driving can be fun. The steering is not responsive, and gives the feeling that you may loose control in tight turns. I am unhappy with the fit and finish of the interior parts. The lack of a hood liner, trunk lid liner, and solid flooring in the trunk make for more road noise in the cabin. Back seat passengers have plenty of room even with the front seats moved back.

By m on July 24 @ 3:00 am
Worth the cost
Compared it to the Camry and for value and styling it was the better buy. With the limited amount of miles we have on the car it has performed well.

Best In Class
I love this car. It is well designed, good looking and great value for the money. It is big inside and out with a smooth quiet ride and the trunk is huge. The tilt / telescope wheel allow for a very relaxed seating position. There is a lot of aluminum in this car making it the lightest and most responsive in its class. The four cylinder has lots of power, and I can't imagine why anyone would get the six. For only $500 I got a p/seat, security, trip PC, alloy wheels, controls on the steering wheel, remote opens the trunk, doors and both front windows, and a really awesome sound system. Toyota and Honda finally have some real competition!

My First Car
I love the Nissan. It makes me feel so safe because of it's design (did you know it's made from one piece of steel, not many fused together?), and I never have any problems. If it weren't for this car, I wouldn't have been able to avoid a wreck with some stupid teenager. The price is so much lower than the worth, and the value stays high. I love my car, and I know anyone else who buys one will love it to! Also, although I bought the 2.5, I specialized it with everything the 3.5 has, and even wound up saving a little money!

Drivinig this car is exciting. I have to stop myself from racing. My grounding element, my daughter prevents this ofen, but when alone, or on an open road, it's road rage or 80 and up. Lord grant me patience. I don't like the turn radius. I don't like the the mirrors that don't fold in. I don't like the way rain falls into a cracked window. The rain deflectors look hideous. It's also a lot of area to personally handwash. I have every option the factory offered on my interior. Details, details. but when I am done, he's beautiful. I am very impressed with this car as it it very affordable and has a ton of features that actually work like it says in the advertisements. Very Quiet, very powerful engine. Great interior layout. Nice gauges that are easy to read day and night. The car is breath taking fast and stops on a dime if you have to. Great looks and great performance at a great price is basically what this car adds up to. One test drive and you wil be hooked on the 3.5SE V6 model, Guaranteed.

Fun to drive. Everything is in the right place. Plenty of amenities on this model. Got the new color ( smoke ) and think it is sharp. Suspension, roominess, and engine are better than the comparables. This 4 door has my 3 sons thinking it is a sports car.

By wshwasmdnjpn on July 21 @ 3:00 am
Satisfied with this choice
It rides and drives very well and the interior is laid out well with plenty of smaller storage compartments to put things. The seats are comfortable enough for longer trips. My only complaint is some of the interior plastic somewhere in the dash near the passenger side door will rattle slightly going over rough roads and also the roof under the cloth lining will also. It's one of those things that is so slight that if you took it back to the dealer they wouldn't be able to find the problem to fix it. Nissan just needs to make the fittings tighter during assembly.

I absolutely love my Altima. To be honest I had driven a Toyota until I looked at the new designed Altima. I have a 2002 and just love it. I got the 3.5 V6 and it runs like a top. So fun to drive and great sporty looks.

My Alti 3.5 SE
This is a very fast car. Much faster than my Grand Prix GT that I had before this. Interior materiels are really cheap and crummy. Nissan really cut corners on the inside materials. Excellent engine. Ypu have all the power you,ll ever need and then some. Engine noise in loud on the inside.

A fun car, I bought the car loaded except for the special headlight and wood interior and fin. Its worth test driving even if your looking at a higher end car such as a 3 series BMW, acura TL and, a lot better than any volkswagon. A lot of POWER. I have had the car a year and it still give me chills when I am on the highway at 70 and I press on the gas (watch out for the person in front of you). I am also a person that does not like rattles within the car, and this car I don't hear any. Very well built very sound.

This is my 3rd Nissan product. I am thrilled with the roomier interior (5' 10" and very comfortable). We bought the 4 cylinder because it was plenty of power for our needs. The dealership was very helpful...don't understand why THEY don't offer a better service package for new car buyers.(Brenner Nissan, Camp Hill, PA) This car is "Smokin".

03 2.5S
I like the styling. Interior layout is pretty good, but you will notice that Nissan just doesn't use very high quality materials on the interior. Ride and handling is pretty darn good in this car. The 2.5L has plenty of power, but the automatic transmission was not all that great, but ok. Fuel mileage is good, 28-30mpg on the highway. Overall, this is a pretty good choice considering I got mine for a little over 18K. I ended up trading for a Toyota 4Runner. I would recommend the Altima, but would also encourage considering spending a little more on a Honda or Toyota as I believe those cars are of superior quality and have better residual values.

Nissan Altima 3.5 Se V6
The dealership was awesome, very friendly and did not push us. Test drived two vehicles and both drove great. Very impressed with the altima. Found it very competitive with the honda accord but overall we were more impressed with the altima. Because it had more inside space, better body style and more affordable.

By Nissan Buyer 20500 on November 1 @ 3:00 am
Truly Top of the Line
Compared Altima to Ford, Dodge, Chrysler, Toyota and Camry. This beauty outclassed them all value-wise. This car is fully loaded for less than an equivalent Accord base (pre-option) price. A 4-cyl with enough power to pull you back in your seat. Some Edmnds reviews say it steers badly--that's torque steering. The engine pulls so well that accelerating while turning will "assist" the driver with a pull on the wheel. After a week, you know how to handle it.

By Richard Swig on November 1 @ 3:00 am
Altima Gas Mileage
The 2004 Altima looks great and handles well, like several other Japanese sedans. However, mine doesn't measure up in the gas mileage department. Since I live six miles out of town and have only one (1) stop sign and one (1) light between my location and the mall, I've previously experienced very high mileage, above the advertised highway figure. This 2004 Altima has been getting (1300 miles since new) only 22-24 mpg, right at the low end of the rating (23city, 29 highway). It's unacceptable.

Can't be beat
You show me another car out there that I can but for $25k that combines, performance, space, reliability, and looks and I'll buy it. As far as I am concerned every other car comes up a little bit short in in one of those areas, or has a higher price tag in order to match the Altima in those areas. The Altima can't be beat, literally and figuratively, just ask the Bimmers, Audis, Acuras, Mustang GTs that I leave choking in my dust on daily basis.

By Skiier3 on April 6 @ 3:00 am
Nissan went out on a limb redesigning their altima, but honestly what did they have to loose, the old altima was nothing short of average. This new altima is an entirely new car, and let me tell you, you cant get more bang for your buck. Compared to a new accord and new camry this car out does them in looks, style, comfort, options, and price. Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife bought a 3.5SE in May 2003. She let me drive it occasionally and I fell in love with it. Bought my own 2 months later. Satin white is beautiful on this car. The power is phenomenal, especially such quiet, smooth, neck snapping acceleration. It's not always the power you use but what what's in reserve. This has RESERVE !!! Can't wait to start it up in the morning. absolutely the most fun car I've ever driven. And all this for $21,200. Awesome Plus !!!

Buy This Car!!!
I wanted this car for the longest time, and when I test drove it, it was everything I expected and more! I fell in love with it immediately and just had to have it! If you want a nice sized sedan that stands out from the crowd, the Altima is for you. The color of mine is Mystic Emerald, and it looks so beautiful when its clean and is forgiving when dirty. Seats are comfortable, drives quietly and smoothly, great 6-speaker factory stereo, power everything is standard. I think I will own Nissan Altima's forever!!!

I just bought this car the other day and I love everthing about it. I had a 1994 Altima and never had a moments trouble. I just needed to upgrade.

Great first car
I was debating between the Civic and the Altima, and the Altima ultimately won. I've only driven my Altima for a week, but I've had a ton of fun doing so. My only complaint is that the interior materials are pretty crappy and the lighter colors make it look like it's constructed of PC casings. I decided on the black interior, so this shortcoming is not as noticeable. I can't comment on the road noise issue because I always have the radio/CD blasting.

By Mr. Vern on October 21 @ 3:00 am
You get what You pay for
Actually, my Nissan is a 2002 purchased in oct 2002. So, 2 yrs and 5 months reveals much about the car, and that is; reliable, reliable, reliable. The 3.5 still provides a lot of giddyup. My 6'3" friend remarked that he had more than ample head and leg room in the rear seat ! The trunk is more than spacious and fuel economy is still exceptional. All, things being equal pricing beat out camry (significantly) in final decision to buy

2004 Altima SE 5 Speed
I got an '04 SE 5 speed with floormats as my only option. Great car, very fast, lots of room, and handles decently. Even the gas mileage hovers around 27-28 when commuting at 75mph, which I am more than happy with. True, Nissan cut some costs on the interior, especially the door panels, and there is a good amount of torque steer when you gun it from a stop, but the build quality is excellent and I am very pleased so far. If you are looking for a new fairly inexpensive sedan with a powerful, flexible, and extremely reliable V6 and don't need a bunch of extra options, this car is tough to beat.

Best Car Ever!!!!
This is my first brand new car and I LOVE IT!!!! I've gone to Georgia, Michigan, and now back to North Carolina and it has handled so well. The car has a sporty outside look but has the luxury feel inside. My husband and I looked at the Grand Prix's and the Chevy Impala's and the Altima STILL had more room than both combined. I was shocked. It handles so well on the road and has such a smooth ride every time I drive it. It's amazing. We put a sun roof in it and a spoiler on the back and I love it. Everything about it, I love.

A race car disguised as a family sedan
This car performs really good for a 4 cylinder automatic. Once you drive it, it's hard to believe its only a 4 cylinder engine. I find the ride quiet and pleasurable. Afterall tires do make a difference with regard to road noise. This car came through with Bridgestone tires, good choice from Nissan, excellent tire. The cheaply made door panels have no affect on the overall performance.

A Winner!
I bought an Altima in 1993, the first year in production, and drove the car for 130K miles. The engine never wore out, but I decided to trade the car because the interior had seen too many hot summers. I could afford more car, but I didn't even have to decide which new car I was going to buy. The Altima was one of the best and most reliable cars I ever owned. My new Altima is awesome in appearance, handling, comfort, and price. I hope to enjoy many years of dependability with my 2004 SL with leather seats and convenience package, as I had with my 1993 GXE.

Can't go wrong...
I can't stress enough what a beautiful car this has been. I've put over 20,000 miles on it so far and it's been a fantastic car in every respect. Great mileage, complete comfort, handles wonderfully. Not a single problem yet, I doubt any will arise soon. I get about 30mpg on highway and mid twenties (depending on driving habit) in the city. It's put to the test on Los Angeles streets and highways everyday and takes it like a champ. Great for long trips with four adults- PLENTY of room. Adult passengers in the back seat have ample leg room, without the front seats having to scooch up at all!

By Michael deCarolis on August 30 @ 3:00 am
I did not like the heater. The windows kept fogging up on me and I had to put the defroster on full blast to clear them. At times it seemed to blow cold air on my legs also. This is a rental car but I had it for 8 days. Nice car to drive though and would but one except for the heater nuisance.

Love my Altima
I shopped for a car for approximately 3 months, test-driving many different types of cars. I drove Buicks, Camrys, Plymouths, Dodges, and VW's. My price range was $20K or less, out the door and I was a cash buyer. The Nissan had all that I wanted in a car, (keyless entry, auto, CD) and had plenty of get up and go, even with a 4 cylinder. I couldn't be happier.

Altima: The 4-door sports car
Being 21 years old I never expected I'd be purchasing a 4-door car. After getting behind the wheel of a 3.5SE I knew I had to have one. I never realized a mid-priced 4-door could be so fun to drive and handle so well. I bought my Super Black 3.5SE the very night of my first test drive. I'm proud to say that the Altima is my favorite car and I'm not overly sad to let my Accord V6 go.

Driving is not one of my favorite things to do, but after buying this car, I can't wait to get behind the wheel. My only complaint is that it is so comfortable to drive it almost puts you to sleep.

By duphud on April 3 @ 3:00 am
I have owned 4 Nissan's in the last 13 years. They are well built, easy to drive, comfortable, and give you a little bit of luxury with out the big price on any model you try. Test drive one and you will feel and see the difference.

My 2004 Nissan Altima
I have always liked the Nissan aotomobile. Unfortunately, I married a Ford man who would not even consider a FOREIGN made car! Now that we are separated pending divorce, I'm back with the old tried and true-a 2004 Nissan Altima which I am thoroughly enjoying. This is my first Altima. I previously owned a Maxima and a Sentra GXE both of which were wonderful cars.

the best ride in town
This is the second Altima we 've owned, after an excellent performance by the 2002, that we had for about 2 years, we went browsing and alas, traded in the first (we rec'd about $11000 trade in value), and came home weith a new one. This is still the best we've had in the many cars (mostly new ones) we've had in our marriage (35years) In a term "The Greatest"

Don't rush buying a Nissan at the Avenue
The car looks nice. After a year the engine had to be repaired for a recall and it still rattles and using oil. The car is very noisy and rides like a buck board. Motor is slow pick up. The dealership was not up front when we bought the car. We had no vehicle and should not have rushed in buying the Nissan, usually buy Fords. We are very dissappointed in the car and very, very disappointed in the dealership in not keeping their promises. We will go back to Fords.

New Altima
We have only had our Altima for a week but we love it. Great handling and cornering and terrific acceleration for a four. The engineering of the car is outstanding. We felt the Altima had a sporty feel to it that was lacking in the Camry and Accord. We traded in a VW Passat which also had great handling but poor reliability.

Great Get around town car
I do independant consulting, and after much deliberation and delay, as well as numerous test drives of other cars, i ended up with a 2004 altima. I've had it for a week, so i wouldn't expect to have problems yet ;). It has been very fun to drive, very smooth, pretty good power, and would recommend that everyone take a test drive. Would have ended up with a 2005, wiht the upgraded interior, but the $1500 rebate and tad lower negotiated price was too much to pass up. But do check out the 2005, i think the interior quality will surprise a lot of honda and toyota fans.

2004 Altima is Wonderful
I have been thinking about buying an Altima. I have own Honda Accords for the last 12 years. I should have bought the Altima sooner than I did. It's a great car which packs a great deal of power under the hood from just the standard 4 cylinder. I think it's a great buy.

I have driven a V-6 Accord for the last 3 years (bought it new) and the Altima is much more fun to drive. The stability and the acceleration is far better than any other mid size car. Why would anyone spend the extra cash for the Maxima?

I have had my eye on the Altima and took the opportunity to buy one of my own when my '99 Ford with less than 80K miles needed a new engine! I love this car, it is beautiful and fun to drive. Very smooth shifting and ride. Very low road noise. I wanted an '05 but got a much better interest rate on the '04, and I don't regret my decision. No more American junk for me!

I can't say enough about this car. It's such a pleasure to drive. The ride really amazed me. The engine is so smooth also.Compared to my last car a 2001 Altima. I haven't had any problems to speak of with this car. Also that this car doesn't have to have a tune up for 110,000 miles was a real selling point. Just a all around great car. Go get one.;)

Classy and Elegant, Great Gas Car
I had a Nissan Xterra and loved it. However the gas mileage was not what I expected. Having to fill up every week for gas. So I traded it for a new 2005 Altima. What a classy, elegant car that is like driving a cloud. Smooth ride, great interior. Roomy with lots of head and leg room for all. A tank of gas now lasts me 2 weeks instead of one. I have gotten so many compliments on this car. (Mystic Emerald color) Have been a Ford driver, but am now a SOLD Nissan fan.

Love it. This is the first time I have ever bought a Nissan product and it's great. Couldn't ask for a better car for the money. I previously drove a Intrepid and loved that car but this handles much better than that car and it is fun to drive. The only flaw I find is that on a windy day the car is a little lighter than I am used to and doesn't handle as well as a heavier car.

I bought this car for it's looks, dependability, and the V6. I have taken several long trips in my new Altima and find the drive very comfortable and enjoyable. Going from a gas guzzling Camaro to my new Altima was a great change. I get anywhere from 25-32 mpg which is a HUGE difference. I miss the pep of the Camaro but you will be surprised what this little 4 cyl can do, not to mention the leg room! Never again!
V6 engine is a +. Interior has a lot of space. Exterior looks very good to be called an Altima. The parts on and in the car is something else. Got my 2004 Altima in Dec. of 2003 and the o2 sensor wend bad @ 1200 miles after that was the left strut at 6000 miles. Then the right at 6800 miles. Over and over. Never ending. Total times struts were replaced is around 7 times for a 2004 Altima w/ 17800 miles. Now Nissan Service has me going in again for a window molding to be repaired for the 4 time now. Nissan Service, and the Altima. NEVER AGAIN! Tips for the ones thinking about the new Altimas. Don't do it. Check all websites w/ info on the Altimas. Wish me luck w/ my lemon.

A little Disappointed
I have always been a big fan of a Nissan product. When the new body style of the Altima came out, I just had to have one! I find that my new 2004 Altima, has plenty of interior room, alot of get up and go and a great look...but it lacks on interior quality. Considering these are not cheaply priced cars, there is alot of room for improvement!

2005 Altima 3.5 SE
I have been a Nissan owner for several years. My first Nissan product was an Infiniti G20. Since then I have owned another G20, two Maxima's, and my Altima. I loved my '02 Maxima SE (which I sold to buy my wife her car). I love this Altima. Prior to buying my '02 Maxima, I drove an '02 Altima. I immediately disliked the Altima's interior (cheap). The '05 Altima is a huge improvement. The 3.5 V6 gets outstanding gas mileage, especially given it's intoxicating power, and is very smooth. The ride is comfortable, and the car is quiet. I paid $2K less for my '05 Altima than I did for my '02 Maxima (great value). My next car is going to be another Nissan product, probably an Infiniti G35.

Fun to drive
I love this car. Since it is my wife's car I donÂ’t get to drive it enough. Excellent highway mileage. I will agree that the interior has a somewhat of a cheap feel to it but if you choose the right color combination you can minimize it. The 3.5 se has way more look and drive that any other car in the price range.

The Nissan Altima has been the best car I've ever purchased. I have the 2.5 engine, but it drives like a V6. This was a great car 'til it hit 40,000 miles. Now I have problems that the dealer can't fix. The car shakes and vibrates then kills. The check engine light comes on. Overall, I really like the car. I've had to put it in the shop for failure to start, CAM sensor, and O2 sensor problems. I did NOT enjoy that part of owning the car. I've spent about $550 in repairs in 2 years. I just past $70,000 miles. I guess that's not so bad...

Love/Hate this car
For the most part, I love this car. I have owned it for about 18 months. I use my '94 Camry for the daily drive to work. This car is used on weekends and traveling. In town, the road noise is okay. On the interstate, sometimes it is terrible. My sister and I were shouting at one another on one stretch of Interstate. It is a beautiful car. I get lots of compliments on it. It is a comfortable ride--much more so than the Camry. It is also fun to drive but sometimes seems "big" to turn and park. Only maintenance so far. The one problem I have had is when I have a passenger. Two different people have knocked the shift out of drive--both times it was pretty scarey.

Not Happy!
I bought a 2004 Nissan Altima in June of 2005. September of '05 the fuel pump went out on it and was supposedly fixed and covered under my warranty. My car had to be towed to the dealership. In May of '06, I had a transmission fluid leak which took 4 trips into the dealership for them to find exactly where the leak was. This was also covered under my warranty. Now, 1 1/2 weeks ago, my car failed to start again. Once the dealership checked it out, they stated it was the crank position sensor. This is not covered by my warranty and it's going to cost us $140. I am so unhappy with Nissan and have called the Nissan customer service to request they pay for the problem, they won't return my calls.

Worst Car
The only good experience with this car is when I first bought It. The Keys Deactivated with no one at Nissan able to tell me why but charged to reset them. The exhaust manifold cracked and had to be replaced which they did but not before engine developed a valve noise that they would not help. The driverside window motor went out. The sunroof opens and closes on it's own. The interior is cheaply built, the visors and cup holders have broken or screws are falling out. Exhaust donut gasket went out. With all these problems along with a couple factory recalls led me to never to want another Nissan because even contacting Corporate they would not help.

Best Of All of Them
I'm in my 60s and for all the cars I have bought and driven over the years from Chevys, Fords and other imports, this car is the best of the breed. It's comfortable, it's fun to drive and very very reliable. If I had enough money I would buy one for every day of the week.

A thing for Altimas
This was my 2nd Altima. I had a '95 that I bought used in '96, kept it until '05 (160k miles) when I bought my 2nd one (also used). These cars definitely seem to have problems w/the O2 sensors (both of mine did), but overall are reliable. Unfortunately, I just totalled my 2nd one (at 73k miles) so I am off this weekend to by another :(

Disappointment compared to 1994 Altima
I purchased this car in new 2004, after driving a 1994 Altima into the ground and loving every mile. This car has cost me quite a bit in maintenance (religious about that) and repairs, and I have a clutch waiting to go (drove 250K miles on last clutch so don't blame the driver). The interior is chintzy, the cup holder broke just out of warranty and will cost a mint to fix, the glove compartment barely opens, the list goes on with inconveniences. I will keep this car until it dies because it is relatively fun to drive & somewhat reliable. Yet, compared to the 1994 Altima it is a disappointment... the pretty boy of Altimas. Nissan cheaped on value to deliver a good looking car.

By pdupuy on January 6 @ 9:50 pm
Too many repairs
I have had to bring this car back to the dealership numerous times. I've always had to bring it back more than once for the same repair. Now I keep having sensors go out, it's out of warranty and I'm spending a small fortune in repairs. Want to trade it in, not sure at this point if i ever want another Nissan. I love the design but the reliability is extremely disappointing. No way I should be having this much trouble, this car should last 200,000 miles easily.

Wish I bought a Honda
This is the first car I have ever bought by myself and needless to say I am not impressed. I did buy it used, but the dealership insisted it was in great condition. There is a rattle in the door that after 3 trys from the dealership isn't fixed. Within 2 weeks of owning it my battery exploded. I have spent 1200 on the front and they then told me my engine mount was broke, the belts are all cracking, the radiator house is leaking etc. The finishing on the woodgrain has peeled. When my brake pads got low there was no warning went straight to grinding which resulted in more damage. Now I'm without a car again because the fuel pump. I'm a college student without money & now a unreliable vehicle.

By Rusty on February 8 @ 7:40 am
Great Style and Bose sound system
I bought the Altima new and have all the features of leather, sun roof, Bose sound (which is the best) ABS, side air bags, etc. I use it mostly for commuting and now have 105,000 miles on it. The mileage is great (28-30 mpg) for work and 32 mpg on longer trips. I've only had one problem about 6 months ago it wouldn't start once in a while and would quit while slowing down for a light. Nissan sent out recall at the same time which fixed the problem. My only complaint would be the poor quality material of the seat which started cracking about a year after the warranty expired. Also the automatic shifting is like working a rubic cube.

Great Car, Buy a Camry !
My wife and I have an 04 and an 05, both 2.5S models. The 05 has held up pretty good so far, only having to replace an O2 sensor but the 04 is rubbish. Brakes are bad and need replaced often, had an O2 replaced, radiator/AC fans, rotors, rattles and noises. There is a rattle coming from the engine compartment. Check engine just came back on, again. Code P0420, catalytic converter. Warranty goes out after 80K on cat convts and after that you're on your own. $950 to fix +engine may be compromised. I really like the car when it's parked. I'm scared to drive it. Lucky me I own an 03 Corolla which never lets me down. Absolutely no problems. If you like having car problems a lot get an Altima !

For the first year or so, this car was the best thing I had ever driven. It looks great inside & out, it's very powerful for a 4-cylinder, and it's pretty good on gas. Then the problems started happening... having to replace a steering joint, numerous brake work, engine cover coming undone, sensors out of whack, you name it. I am extremely meticulous when it comes to servicing my car, which is why I don't understand why all these problems kept coming up. And the car just turned 5 years old, with just about 100,000 kms only. This car has become a nuisance - I will never buy another Nissan, and I'm now hoping I can sell it or that it gets stolen. Seriously.

Death Trap
Don't buy this or any other Nissan. Nissan is not standing behind it's product and charging for repairs on a recall. My car stalls and Nissan knows why but refuses to fix their faulty product. Cam and crank sensor need to be replaced or your car will stall. Nissan refuses to fix this at their cost stating that it reprogramming the ECM fixes this. Well it does not and they know it. I am never buying a Nissan again and I suggest that you don't either....unless... you have a death wish. FYI it stall on turns. No ABS, power brakes, power steering and all that good stuff that you need to control your car.

Good car, but beware of a few issues
I am the original owner of a 2004 Altima I purchased in 2003. It's a fun to drive car and has adequate head/legroom for tall drivers (as long as there is no sunroof). Acceleration and handling are very good and I generally get 23 mpg from daily driving. My biggest issues have been the following: Nissan dealerships are not good at diagnosing/fixing problems (I've used several dealerships with similar results), car won't start after you turn car on/off quickly in cold weather (This is a known "cold start" issue that, based on my experience, Nissan generally does not acknowledge/fix), parts can be expensive. While I enjoy driving the car, my experiences with Nissan are often disappointing.

The only problems that I did had was twice that the car turned off by itself but that was the time I had received a letter of recalls.... I sent it back twice to get it fixed for the recalls & haven't had any trouble since! Of course I have followed most of the maintenance that states on the manual & until now I have had no trouble at all with my car! My car now has over 100,000 miles & its still running! I am hoping it lasts me another 100,000 miles! It is a reliable, spacious & good looking car! I would not have kept it for so long if it wasn't!

What's going on?
2004 2.5 automatic bought 2/2004; 106,000 99% hgwy miles; excellent maintenance; 1 driver only. Within six months of purchase, 1 piston not firing fixed under warranty--told I was LUCKY!); replaced serpentine belt (3 yrs); hesitating 4 1/2 yrs ($1500. to fix); now, oil leaking into engine, told I need a NEW ENGINE! My 3rd Altima, other two (standard, 95 & 98, no problems at all. THIS CAR A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT.

Durable so far
Bought used with 36,000 miles on it. Well built, feels solid, durable. I drive 30,000 miles per year, mostly highway miles. Brakes were the only ''outstanding glitch"" as the rotors do not seem well built.

Not Too Shabby
Bought the car slightly used, and I've only had two minor problems with it, both outside of warranty. First, the radio, which Nissan replaced, rather gave me a gift certificate to Circuit City, which turned out to be a better deal. Second was the CPI, which Nissan fixed at a highly discounted rate. The car has been a true workhorse for me. Multiple trips almost the length of the East Coast and one cross country trip. I've put a little aver 80,000 miles on the car in less than 4 years. Other than the radio and CPI, I have yet to do more than just regular upkeep on the car, and I am very hard on cars. I'd definitely recommend the Altima to a friend, and would definitely buy another.

2004 Altima 2.5L SL
After 150,000 miles, this car still runs and rides like new. The 2.5 L, 4 sp automatic has plenty of pep and delivers an average of 27 mpg for this daily commuter. The ride is smooth and handling is above average. There is plenty of head and leg room front and back, the seats are comfortable, and the Bose sound system is fantastic. Maintenance has been minimal, replacing the front right wheel bearing at 90,000 (extended warranty work) and the crankshaft position sensor at 102,000 ($120 parts and labor). I replaced the upper motor mount and idler pulley at 135K in 1 hour for less than $100. The road noise is the only thing that I can say bad about this car. This car has given us great service.

2004 Altima with 225,000 miles
Can't beat this car. I bought it in 2005 and it had 19,000 miles. Now it has 225,000 miles and still going strong. I have replaced the alternator, crank shaft position sensor (car was stalling a lot), and A/C expansion valve. I live in FL so A/C is a must. A/C repair was the most expensive at $375. Overall it gets 5 stars. I am hoping to get to 400,000 miles before giving it up.

Nobody can fix this car. Was told it was crank/cam sensors. No! Timing. No! New computer. No! The thing won't start. The dealer has no idea and neither do two reputable mechanics. I'm a real estate agent with no (running) car in a market that makes it tough to buy a new car!

I have nothing but trouble since buying this car. I am only getting about 18 miles to the gallon. I drive only back and forth to school (15 min from home) and I go through $80.00 a week in gas. Nobody can figure out what is wrong with it. My alignment goes out a week after getting it fixed, it makes weird noises going over bumps. When I shut off my car after drving it smells like sulfur. The steering wheel shakes on a regular basis. This is a car that is just going to nickle and dime you to death. DO NOT BUY! It is a waste of moneyyy!!

Great first starter car!
I got this car when I turned 16 and I have had this car for 6 years now. I got it will 100,000 miles on it and I'm up to 168,000 miles on it and it has run so smooth! I only bring it into the dealership to get routine checkups and once I had to take it in because my engine was rattling which was due to a loose part, which I guess is a frequent problem with this car. It was a 200 dollar repair and thats the only issue I've had on it!

Ok First Car
This was my first car and I fell In love with it right away. I bought it from a buy here pay here 100k on the dot an had it for two yrs. The first yr of owning it It was a great car no problems. I loved the speed of the car an the way it drives real smooth. When I first bought it the sunroof quit working properly but it was an after market an was put in from a previous owner I never bothered with it after I just didn't touch it. But my second year of owning the car I started having problems first thing was my head lights went out an only way to change them is getting either a detailer or Nissan to get inside an change it which would of cost some money but luckily my father in law changed it an all I had to pay for was the bulb itself. Next the alternator went out and I decided to put a used one in by my grandfather. I had to replace the battery TWICE and my gpa couldn't figure out why it constantly needed a new battery. Then two sensors went out and cost me a little.. Then shortly after that my radiator had busted while I was driving and after 100$ of replacing that we figured out the head gasket blew. I was officially over the car an sold it 2015. Overall maintenance wise I won't even lie with this being my first car I didn't keep up with oil changes to good not sure if that had anything to play with anything that came from but this car is a much older car look for something at least 06 or 07 an up with less than 100000 miles. I won't talk bad about Nissan and I still love Altimas but maintaince is a big key to a great car the way you treat your car is how great it will be I believe. But I have read similarities on here so wouldn't recommend the year of this car

Great car
2nd car I ever owned. Have had only one alternator replacement, valve head gasket replacement and some sensors as major repairs. Other than that, the car has been super good. I have spent a total of about $7000 for all repairs AND maintenance, including tires in 11 years of ownership. I have put over 200K miles on it and it has NEVER left me stranded. 70K of those miles were in NYC and those roads and the stop and go destroys the car. However, the car is still going strong. Of course, I have done most of the repairs and maintenance myself. So I have same a VERY large amount in labor.
