2003 Nissan Altima

Nissan Altima Consumer Reviews By Year:
2003 Nissan Altima

NEW FOR 2003

After last year's debut to critical acclaim, Nissan's midsize sedan receives minor changes for 2003. Two new exterior colors, Sonoma Sunset and Crystal Blue add pizzazz to the wardrobe. There's a new charcoal seat fabric, padded cloth front center armrest cover (genuine leather on leather-equipped vehicles) and bright titanium interior accent colors for all models to spruce up the interior. The 2.5 SL receives a standard automatic transmission, heated front seats, heated outside mirrors and simulated wood trim. For the 3.5 SE, there is a Sport Package, which includes a sunroof and spoiler, and a Sport Package Plus, which includes sunroof, spoiler, Bose audio system and HID headlights. The 3.5 SE Leather Package now includes a Bose audio system, sunroof and heated seats, while the Leather Sport Package adds a spoiler and xenon headlights. Finally, a new 3.5 SE Premium Leather Package sports all of the above plus throws in fake wood to boot. How can you go wrong?

PRO

Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, high level of features, explosive V6 engine, distinct styling.

CON

Shabby interior materials, overboosted steering, no stability control.

Review from a test driver only
I test drove the Nissan Altima 2002 today (8/31) and I have to say I was very impressed. The car looks awesome. The paint looks questionable though - how long will it last? The V4 hesitates like most 4 cylinders. The V6 more than makes up for it. The car is definitely fun to drive.

Extremely Pleased
Nissan seems to be working hard to try and overcome Honda and its other competitors. Offering more features standard than Honda and stylish body designs, the Nissan Altima appeals to both young and old. Spacious enough for the family or just a group of college friends, the Altima is open to a wide range of buyers. The 4 cylinder, 175 hp, S and SL models pack plenty of punch, but if that isn't enough for you they offer the 3.5L V6 250 hp SE model. Both engines offer more horsepower than the competing Accord and Camry, 150 and 157 hp respectively. The Altima is simply revolutionizing the mid-size sedan.

2003 Altima is terrific.
What a great car! My fiance happily dropped off her lemon (a 2000 Olds Alero) and picked up one of the nicest cars on the market. We fell in love with this car after test driving many others in its class. The styling and build quality were unmatched.

Great car, great price
Bought the 2003 3.5 SE, and have been just completely blown away by how improved the interior is over the 2002, as well as how comfortable and fun to drive this car is. I've never owned a Nissan before (Honda & Toyotas mostly), but this Altima has me won over!! And, best of all, due to an error by the dealership, I got this one at slightly over Invoice!!! ;) The only downer is that Nissan doesn't run any financing specials on Altimas, so the Rate is a little higher than I would have liked, but I can live with it!

Nice car.... to lease
There we have it... In summary, the all new Altima is a good performer and is worth leasing, but if you are considering buying it, do your research. The resale on this car is horrible! You lose almost 50% in the first 18 months!

Can't believe it's a Nissan!
Great acceleration, beautiful body styling, much improved interior over the 2002 - but still needs a little improvement w/ the interior features - but this car is a blast to drive... the Accord is in big trouble!!

Best Vehicle Ever!!!!
I am 100 o/o happy with this car. I have had many, many cars and this one is right at the top. Thank you Nissan. The only negative is the steering wheel radio and speed controls are not lighted. The rest is Perfect!

Best Car on the Road for under 30K
Love this car, it handles better than any other car in its class, looks ten times better than anything in its class and has much more room than anything in its class, Camry and Accord are no match to this car, the North American Car of the Year for 2002, I rest my case!

Very Pleased !!!
Great car !!! If the '02 interior was cheap (as I have read) then they have really improved it. While there is some plastic, it does not come across "cheap " at all. It is layed out very well, is very easy to use and the fit is very good...the car is really quiet also (surprisingly). Very impressive, not a lot of wind or road noise....also it is very roomy and comfy. I am tall and have a ton of space in the cabin. Overall, I am very impressed and would recommend an Altima to anyone.

Pleased as punch
I spent the last 3 years in a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant LS. It was a four cyl. and couldn't get out of it's own way. I vowed to myself that I would go with a 6 cyl. the next time around no matter what. Once I did my research and priced the car with everything I wanted in it, it dawned on me, I couldn't afford this V- 6 with the options. So I said I would go with a basic V-6 with no added options. Then I went to the dealership and test drove the 4 Cyl. S. This car has amazing power for a 4 cyl engine. At 175 hp, it has about 45 more than my Galant did, and it seems like 145 more.

Great car but could get better gas mileage.

Disappointed Nissan Fan
Delivered w/38 lbs air in tires! Still rides poorly, harsh, noisy over road joints, jiggly, rear suspension seems like it's suspended on bungee chords on dips. Numerous rattles. Fasteners missing on plastic inner fender splash shields. Dealer can't find klunk in rear area, is replacing shocks to hopefully fix the problem. We have been a Datsun/Nissan/Infiniti family since 1982, owned Sentras, Maximas, 200SX, G- 20 etc. VERY disappointed with this car in comparison. Tougfh to back up, no part of the car is visable out rear window.

Better have a rocket to pass this car!
After owning Toyotas Avalon for seven years and also owned the Toyota Corolla, I hate to admit it but the Nissan Altima out did the Toyota easily. This car puts anything out there to shame! It is the smoothest riding car I have ever owned! Driving this car is like driving a rocket! Love the Bose 6 cd changer sound system along with everything else! Drive this car one time and you will be sold! If you get this car you better have a fat wallet so you can pay for all the personal invitation to the policeman ball!

2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL
175 ponies in a 4cyl engine has some nice get-up-and- go. Traded a 2000 VW Golf GTI GLX VR6 on this car. My VW was a V6 and had 2hp less. My new Altima is a great automatic car for fun to drive value and I thought my VW was fun... it was a manual tranny too which I thought I'd miss but don't so far. The gated shifter in the Altima is a nice styling touch but takes a little to get used to. The 2003 model adds wood trim to the SL model and they didn't over do it. Just enough to add more style. The Bose 6 disc in dash stereo has great sound, lots of bass too. Impressive!

Oh, You Gotta Love It
I've been raised to love Hondas, but once I sat in the Nissan and took it for a spin, I knew I was now a Nissan man. I love this car. It's quiet, it's beautiful, it's comfortable. I could not be happier with the purchase.

Great Car
I've only had the car for a week, but I've driven over 1000 miles already. The Altima is an excellent car. For the money I think it is best in its class. I would recommend one strongly.

I'm so happy, I could plotz!
Just picked this up yesterday, and have already put close to 200 miles on it. This is absolutely the most fun car I have ever owned!! I am the mom of a 3 year old, and it fits an adult and 2 car seats in the back, as well as me (5'8") and my brother (6'4") in the front. Factory stereo is good quality- no Bose, but a nice sounding system, and the crystal blue paint with the side sills and splash guards gives this car a distincly not-your-average kindermusik mom look!!

By billlotida on November 9 @ 11:00 am

Sweet ride!
The car has power. I love the the way it handles. The car even seems to have the same power with the air conditioner at full blast in the middle of the summer. The ride is nice, even with the standard 17" in wheels on the 3.5 SE. The trunk is very spacy and the inside of the car has tons of rear passenger room. The car has yet to have any problems, it was driven off the lot with 8 miles on it and hasn't skipped a beat yet at roughly 900 miles. Overall, I like the smooth ride, the slick look and the overall power/feel for the car. I am entirely satisfied and give the car my top recommendation.

Fun Car Always Gets Head Turns
I've had the car for ten months now. Only two minor problems, both elctrical connections. This 4 cylinder engine does pack power. I still get people asking me how I customized it, I tell them I just bought it off the lot! There is some road noise (much more than the 3 Toyota's I've had) especially on concrete but I can live with it.

Patience is a virtue
I looked for two months for the right car. I narrowed it down to the Altima 2.5S, Camry LE and the Sonata LE (fully loaded). Each car has advantages.I finally made the decision to buy the Altima and I am extemely happy. I got it for a few hundred under invoice. The Camry was to plain and I just could not flush my money on the Hyundai. The Altima is large, powerful, roomy, plenty of power features, and lots of storage space. The 175hp 4cyl is responsive and the gas mileage is good. I have never been happier with a new car purchase. The color is polished pewter. I highly recommend the Nissan Altime for looks, power and quality.

I love this car.....but I ahve owned other black cars and not had near the problem I am having with this car. I think it is a pretty cheap paint....I know it looks great clean but with this paint it is impossible to get rid of water spots!

Former Camry Driver
Having just traded in my 1998 Camry LE, I'm quite pleased so far with the Altima 2.5 S. It drives smoothly and picks up speed very quickly. It was also more advantageous to purchase the S model and add leather from a source outside of the factory installed leather.

I own a yugo with a nissan sticker on it
I bought this nissan hoping to step up in class from my ford escort, only to find numerous problems, including, transmission slippage, caused by gear ratio setup not correct. In the suspension system, I noticed extreme dampening during braking intervals on hills. My microfilter worked terribly. I would say I loved the gas mileage. Some would say 12 mph for the highway might not be acceptable, but after experiencing this car, I was just thrilled it was able to make it to a gas station. Never again will I buy a Yugo..oops I mean Nissan

Solid performer
The Altima 3.5SE is a solid performer. It's great fun to drive and fast as a shot. It handles great and has plenty of interior room. The exterior styling is hard to beat and much nicer than any of it's competition.

Extremely Satisfied
I'm a former Neon owner so this was a huge step up for me from what I was used to. I have less than 100 miles on it so I can only speak from limited experience. All 10's except for 2 9's: 1) Fun to Drive- very fun but I am extremely cascious being new to all this horsepower. 2)Fuel Economy- good gas mileage but shouldn't of made it require premium.

Review: Nissan Altima 2.5S
When test driving this car, my wife and I should have really paid attention to the interior layout and design. We bought the car because we thought it was the best looking car. Overall the car handles poorly and the rear suspension makes a lot of noise. Also, we have a lot of trouble backing. The general design gives you absolutely no visibilty out of the rear window. You can't see anything. The side mirrors are small and have blind spots. Also, the engine is a little loud and raspy. If we had the chance to start over we would have purchased something else. We shouldn't have limited ourselves to exterior looks only!

By JeffR on May 15 @ 3:00 am
love my car
Best thing Nissan has done since the 300zx. Fast responsive and good hadling, although the cornering is a bit soft. Interior is set up well, trim could be of a less chincy type. All and all, the car is a great buy for the performance of the 240 hp 3.5

My 2003 Altima 2.5S
actually this car was purchased 10/31/31 of 2003. It is everything that I wanted in a car. My husband sold a 1986 Nissan truck with 489,000 miles on it and I was quickly sold on the Nissan name and dependability. My first choice was a Honad Accord, but after looking at the price of the Accord and the standard equipment in it I found that I got more bang for the buck. Also one thing that strayed me away from the Accord is the accord is the number one STOLEN vehicle in America, not to mention that nearly everyone has one.

Great car. A lot of value. I have one loaded with everything for 25k+. Can not beat content, style, performance and quality for price. next competitor with manual transmission is BMW. Not worth the extra $. I dropped a K&N filter for extra punch.

THIS CAR SUCKS
Bought the car the first day available in 2001 (9/01). Since the first day, has been in the dealership a total of 4 months. Odometer and speedometer head problems. A-pillar sqeak. Stips of insullation in vent ducts. Catalytic converter @18K. All 4 rotors @18K. Whole engine rebuild @19K. Front Axl seperation at 18K. Today, the gas door stopped operating. RESALE SUCKS on this car. BUY ANYTHING ELSE. NISSAN has offered NO support.

Great car.
Great car. Roomy interior and best styling in its class... The Bose 8 spkr system is one of the tops out there. This is a highly competitive class but the altima is the tops in my boook. the accord's new styling was a bit off... The Camry is nice but too bland. The Passat doesnt have the reliability and is too expensive. We won't even start with the american cars (although the stratus is pretty good).

Altima 2.5 SL
We spend about 1 month looking for a new car. At the end, our choices were Altima and VW Passat. Both Altima and Passat has the same performance (horsepower, legroom, etc). However, Altima is better looking than Passat. We were looking for 3.5SE but the dealer could not find the car we were looking for. We settled for 2.5SL My Altima has 360 miles on it and hopefully it will last as long as (or better) than my first car (Civic 96 -- 160,000 miles -- still going).

Excellent Sports Sedan
This is a 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE in a manual. The car is is jet black on the outside and charcoal inside. This is the best car both sedan or sports car that I have ever owned. It handles like a dream and is extremely fast. The 5 speed manual shifter is very smooth and is very fun to drive. Interior space is very spacious with lots of nice storage compartments including two huge copholders in the front as well as in the back and with a huge trunk. Drove a new Camry and Accord and discovered that if you really love cars and want a sharp looking car that really stands out and is fun to drive than get the Altima otherwise get something else.

By Ybelog on March 5 @ 3:00 am
Excellent family/sports car.
This car is beautiful inside and out. Drives and handles like a dream. I can't wait to get inside this car every time I drive to and from work. The 3.5 V6 is smooth as silk and provides lot's and lot's of power. Inside the car is very spacious and comfortable, with plenty of storage compartments and a huge trunk. The gauges are perfectly placed and the standard stereo has plenty of base.

By Haute Harry on May 22 @ 3:00 am
2003 Altima Interior design deficiencies
Car has nice exterior styling; however, interior materials are way too hard and plastic. Needs soft covering over all door interior sides. Interior lights on dash need to be different colors for different gauges. Difficult to distinguish between fuel gauge, temperature, and shift/gear selector because of same color and close proximity.

Better than an Acura
I traded in a 2001 Acura GS-R Integra for a 2003 5spd V6 Altima. There is a huge difference in every aspect. The Altima is much more powerful, the Altima has a much smoother clutch, much roomier, more solidly built and so far much more reliable. I will never purchase another Acura. I bought 2 and had nothing but problems with both of them. The Altima is an incredible value.

Last Nissan
After owning 4 Maxima's over the years, the Maxima had always been well built, had good resale and reputation, but not the most cutting edge with styling.I purchased a fully loaded SE, and while the exterior styling and engine are 1st rate, the interior cabin design and build quality looks and feels like it belongs in a car of much lesser cost!!( KIA!!??) While I realize the used car market is glutted at this point, my Altima has depreciated $7000.00 from the selling price,($10,000 from the sticker price!) and the car is not a year old yet!! I would gladly spend $40K, and have a vehicle that is of better quality and resale value .

Firm Ride
The 2003 Altima SE 3.5L is an eye catching vehicle that possesses a lot of style and attitude. Acknowledging the outstanding performance of the Maxima engine, this car is fun to drive and handles extremely well on mountain roads the Interstates. Maybe it's because of my age (60), I would perfer a more comfortable ride as the suspension is very stiff.

Funnest car ever driven!!!
I was going crazy looking for mid-size cars, until I stopped at the Nissan dealer, this car has style, performance and reliability all wrapped up in one package. The price was great, the options that came were what I needed. Honda and Toyota would have charged me $3000 more for the same options I got in the Altima. Very fun to drive, worth every penny if you are looking for a dependable and stylish car set at just the right price.

I just purchased my Altima on the 1st of December and I simply love it to death. It drives superb and hands very good handling on the highway and the interior is simply awesome. Great car, great price
Bought the '03 Altima in September, and I've been enjoying it ever since. I considered the 3.5, but frankly, with Chicago traffic the way it is, I just couldn't see spending the money when I'll barely even get to play fully with the full capability of the 2.5. Even at that, the 2.5 has plenty of getup and go. Can't say as I was impressed with the sales staff, but I went in armed with Edmunds, Consumer Reports, and Kelly Blue Book's pricing lists, so there was no doubt as to the accuracy of my numbers.

Love that Altima!
Have owned 3 sentras and a 95 altima, this is by far the best. Great reliablility in a car. I have had the 2003 Altima for a week now and still can't get over the smooth, quiet ride. Considered Jetta and Accord but they have boring styling, this V6 has pep even in an automatic. Drove the 2002 Maxima for a day while removing pinstripes on new Altima. Altima much improved over Maxima. Watch out for the new 2004 maxima though.

By Sweet02AltimaSE on February 6 @ 3:00 am
Awesome Car
Its about time they made the Altima available in a V6...and what a V6 it is. The engine is smooth, responsive, quiet, and fast. The exterior design is great. That's probably what attracted me to the car initially. Then, I found out that it had 240 horsepower hiding under its hood...I had to have it. The interior lacks a bit; however, consider the car. The Altima's price range extends from as low as $16K-$30K. For a $16K car, the interior is fine. For a $30K car, which is what mine almost was, the interior is lacking a bit, mostly in the cheap-looking door panels. The interior has some rattles, but I've learned to deal with it - turn the radio up.

I love this car. For the money it feels like a high end Lexus. It has tons of power and very quiet. I use it to get up and down the freeway to work and around town. I got the Bose system and it rocks! My only complaints are minor - no power garage door opener button on the ceiling; for what I paid ($25k)it should of come with ABS like the Accord does.

03 altima
In my opinion, my 03 Nissan is one of the best entry level luxury sedans for the money. Ive mainly compared it to the VW Passat and overall, the Altima is better. It is about six thousand dollars cheaper and looks about the same on the outside. The interior is very advanced for its time as well.

By knoll on December 15 @ 3:00 am
Exceptional
Based on personal comparison shopping, the 2003 Nissan Altima outperformed its competitors in terms of price and quality. The standard 170+hp engine on the 2.5s is more than sufficient and can be upgraded, while keeping a very young professional feel to it necessary in my line of work. The only minor drawback, which should not discourage the Altima's potentional buyers, is that the engine is slightly noiser than its Toyota Camry counterpart, which is to be expected with the larger engine. I am so satisfied with this car that I recommend this car to all my friends.

Nissan To Die For!
I have owned a Lexus, BMW, Mazda RX-7, Diamante and a Suburban, to name some. I can honestly say this is the most fun car out of all of the above. The power is unbelievable! You have to be careful when accelerating quickly due to the front wheel drive (it gets a little out of control!) I LOVE IT! I would highly reccommend this car for the money.

NO BUYERS REMORSE HERE!!
I searched for a year, to find a car I could love for 5 years or more. The Altima 2.5S was that car. I looked for a 2002(checking for a deal), and couldn't find one, cheaper than a 2003. Whoever, says they are not holding there own on re-sale, try looking in Arizona. They are hanging in there with the Honda's and Toyota's. Which there body styles are in no comparison to the Altima's. I got my Altima - I absolutely love it. It drives like a dream. The interior is a little "plasticy" but what do you except for a car in that price range. Honda wasn't any better.

The Family Sports Car
Just bought this car this week, but was very impressed with the exterior styling, engine, interior layout, and competitive price. Steering and handling is exceptional, and up to this point, haven't found any shortcomings with the vehicle anywhere. Nissan's financing program on the Altima is exceptional at the present time. Hope reliability is as good as my 1983 Datsun Pickup (I still drive and use) that has over 300,000 miles on it. So far, a Great Car.

Nissan Hits Jackpot
After owning an older Altima and having NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER for the 130K miles (sold it above Edmunds.com's estimate for Private Party), I have bought my 2003 2.5 S in October, 2002. Already put 6,000 miles on without ANY problems. Love the powerful 4 cyl., the steadiness at speed on the road and in the curves, the comfort and space inside. The outside design is a winner, leaving Toyota and Honda scrambling at the drawing boards to catch up. Price was fantastic (about $4000 less than any other car in this category). BUY ONE and KEEP IT as long as you need and... ENJOY!

You won't believe the acceleration! Great design, great power, lots of internal space. Have driven Hondas, Acuras, Toyotas and Japan-domestic only Nissans before and this is by far the best pure performance car of the bunch. This is the car for you if you're looking for a budget-conscious, high performance sports sedan.

Nissan Has A Winner
A fast, powerful and fun car to drive. Steering at times gets dicey. Large turning radius makes for awkward turning maneuvers. Owned several ZX's and this car is just as strong...lots of interior room and cargo space

PIECE OF JUNK
having had a 97 altima and a 2000 Altima I tried a 2003 for a test drive. It is still a piece of junk that has been slapped together with very poor straight line stability when it hit bumps and dip. My 2001 LL Bean outback is decidedly better and my new 2003 H-^ outback sedan absolutely trounces an equivalently priced Altima. The new altima is pathetic and your reviewer must have received a free vacation or something. Tyoical Nissan more sizzle and less beef. By the way does Nissan believ in rear bumpers?

The "real" four door sports car
Nissan has finally hit the mark! This is a true sports sedan. I'm 6'6" tall, and I can completely stretch my legs in the driver front seat!. This car is a true joy to drive, and a real sleeper. I had no idea just how quick this car was until I got behind the wheel. It rides very well, and handles better than my 99 Mustang GT. I recommend this car to anyone.

Buy This Car
I've only owned this car for 2 months but feel it will be a car I will fall in love with. It has all the features of a expensive vehicle with a attractive cost.(If you negotiate)I paid $20,207 for the S model with the Convenience Plus package. I feel the price was very fair for me. Great sales staff at Waikem Nissan in Canton.

Great Car!!
It came down to 2 cars for me..the '03 Altima and the Volkswagon Passat. Although I liked the Passat more physically, i felt that both cars were very comfortable and drove well. In the end, I bought the Altima because I didn't feel the price difference was worth it. I traded in my 1993 Nissan Altima GXE and bought the 2003....Love it so far.

One problem after another...
Many problems. Have had to replace center adjusting armrest, door panel (leaking). Also had recall on airbag just after purchase, have replaced windshield once, and it needs to be replaced again. Nissan refuses to pay stating environmental. However, the glass can't seem to withstand any rocks hitting it. Right now, the vehicle is in the shop because it died in traffic yesterday and would not restart. This is the second time this has happened. The first time it was in a heated garage for three days and would not start. The second time it stalled out in -5 degree weather. Nissan reports that it is an "Altima" problem they are trying to figure out.

I was very pleased with the new look. But the inerior could have be alittle better made. The quality of the carpet is poor. The carpet under the seats is very poor made. I was really suprised at how the carpet feels. It is not very well put together. I had a 1995 althima and it felt better the carpet was of better quality. It seems the put a lot of money in the design and compfort. But was willing to skip on the interior.

New NIssan Altima 2003
just purchased the vehicle. give it style and performance points, but build quality sucks. after driving 50 miles 'Service Engine Light' lights on, replaced fuel sensor/pump unit after taking off back seat/fuel tank cover?? some creaking noise already, probably some interior panel?? Nissan SE 3.5
I bought the SE 3.5 Model Mid Jan, And I can't say enough good things about the jobs. My first car was a dodge Neon and as you can imagine, the Altima says it all it's ALLsome, and then some more. The performance is excellent, and the Bose system is off the chain. So I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who wants sporty, sleek, attractive, and comfortable. I plan to keep this vehicle for a very long time.

Fast sleek looking car
The revised Altima looks like a more expensive car such as a BMW or Volkswagen. It is fast and good lokking. People turn their heads and ask what kind of car is it? I probably sold three others by them looking at mine. The only problem is it is not a car for snow country. It is too light. My older Dodge Intrepid is a lot heavier and plows through the snow. Maybe it needs studded tiers in the winter?

Stollen love
I did own a 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE... But now with the crime of my town, I don't! I absalutlly loved my Altima, it had the class of a Lexus and the performance of a Mustang GT. I just loved it's ability to get up and go, exspecially when challenged by punks in a Camaro Z28... who I left crying in the dust when they found out that it was a stock engine. Coming from a Honda Accord I was not dissapointed one bit by my Nissan. The Bose sound system was unbeatable and the space was extrodinary! I loved that Altima and I'm sure who ever stole it is having a blast. They just better hope I don't find them!

My First 'New Car'
You could imagine my anxiety, I had never before purchased a car. Much less a 'Brand New Car.' Originally, I was in love with the Camry. I new I wanted a reliable sedan that, if I chose I could drive for the next 10 years without a problem. The car my wife and I shared, a '95 Nissan Pathfinder was still in excellent condition, and never had any mechanical problems. That's when I test drove the 2003 Altima, and that was all it took. Other than the front panel, which I think looks cheap and can use some work, I was in love with the car. I would recommend it to anyone, and have.

Aggressive sedan
I have traditionally only purchased sport cars, because of the typical weak performance and styling on sedans. While I typically admired the quality of Japnaese cars, I was always disappoint with their conservative designs, like Camry and Accord. The Altima is truely cutting edge design. The V6 is great, even the 4 I tested was exceptional. I wouldn't compare it to a CamaroZ28, for which I also own, as a previous author had done. Hard to compare a 0to60 of 5.5 sec to 7.3 sec. The Altima will definitely blow away another sedan on the roam. I am 6' 4" and have plenty of room. Nissan did an excellent job everywhere it counts.

Good Car, Room for Improvement
Overall a very reliable car. Nice looking. Strong and fast, probably one of the strongest 4cyl (175 horses) engines I've seen. Fun to drive. Roomy. Interior needs a lot of improvement though. Something could be done to lower the noise. A very good car that needs some refining, so I am looking forward to the 04 version (with standard ABS).

Unsatisfied
Was very excited to purchase a new '02 Altima. Read great ratings, etc. Turns out after 7 months I've been back to the dealership at least 3 times. Problems with squeeking in fastened seat belts. Need to have shocks replaced after only 7,000 miles. Now have a weird "rotten egg" smell coming through vent when heat is on. Took to dealership wasn't happening at the time it was there so they wouldn't even replace filters to see if that would correct problem. Told me it needed to be happening while car was there. Also lied and said there were no filters in the Altima.

2.5S: underrated joy
I went shopping for the most car for under $20k. American cars were out, I have a very low opinion on thier quality. European cars offere very little under $20k. Toyota, Honda and mitsubishi offerings offer sedate performance at this price. The 2.5s gets mileage like many entry level econo-boxes, but has excellent punch, handling and acceleration for a normally aspirated 4 cylander. There is an urgency to it's movement, and a fun to drive factor at a bargian price. i feel the fit/finish/quality is topnotch in it's class.

By drdoz on January 14 @ 3:00 am
Good Torque For a 4CYL
I was going to buy a 3.5 V6 but after driving the 2.5 I decided the larger engine was a little overkill. The variable valve timing, variable intake runners and 2.5 liters make power from take off though high RPMs. This may well be the most powerfull feeling 4 cylinder sedan in its price range. The car rides good; acomplished by increases in the wheelbase and is quiet. The fuel economy is on par with most cars in the class but not as good as an Accord. Maintenence should be less expensive as there is no timing belt to replace. The back seat is very spacious compared to any other midsize I have been in.

The Altima handles nicely and has all the extras I wanted at a price well below what I was going to pay for a Camry. The exterior design makes it look like a much more expensive car.

2003 improvements, some still left
2003 Crystal Blue 3.5SE in Toronto, Canada comes with everything except auto. ABS, cd stereo, cruise control, steering wheel mounted controls, automatic climate control. 245 hp through a five speed is massive acceleration great for 3,200 lb car. Wider tires give good handling, although it is a little front heavy and torque steer requires front tire pressure a bit lower than spec to counter. Interior material mediocre at best, unlike Maxima, but not a big deal. Dashboard attractive, centre console useful. A lot of room inside. Exterior styling in this colour is electric.

By ysaday on June 1 @ 3:00 am
A Big sport sedan on the cheap
The powerful VQ engine really delivers the power sometimes making you wish you had a wider front tires and a limited slip. Considering how big this car is, it feel light ( Thanks to aluminum hood, trunk, etc.).The interior leaves a lot to be desired although room is good for 6 footer in front and back. Oh yeah the factory sound system is excellent even w/o the Bose upgrade.

By mans on November 21 @ 3:00 am
A very very bad choice
It was fine for the first 8-10 months after that at around 10,000 miles I started seeing problems, my Bose stereo died, my turn signal stopped working, my suspension became rock hard and there is excessive body noise. When I bring this to the attention of the dealership they denied there were any problems. Finally after multiple visits they acknoledged the problems. The string of bad experiences after just one year I am totally shaken with both Stevens Creek Nissan as well as the quality of Nissan cars in general. Stay away from Nissan if you can.

Quick acceleration great looks bump'n sound system. The car that all the 40 year old men with 16 year old brains wants to drive. Glad it's gone
Many problems when bought, dealer never did an inspection. Repeated calls to the General Manager did nothing. Nice engine, smooth ride, and looks. Everything else not good! Tons of paint chips, arm rest starting to loosen, CD storage door never works right. Clunking noise in rear. Traded for a civic and miss the power but nothing else! MAJOR hit on resale! Pay more for Honda and Toyota! I could have had an Accord in the first place...

Love my car!
Beautiful car: I get comments from people 18 through 60(the color is Mystic Emerald, more a mineral green, distinctive and gorgeous). 26.5 miles to the gallon on regular gas (averaging 29-35 miles an hour); a full tank carries me 500 miles. Comfort is amazing, because of the adjustability of the seats and steering wheel. Handling is sound, not edgy; acceleration is brisk. Cruise control and stereo controls are all on the wheel so I never look away from the road. The hubster drives a V6 with 240 HP and my car accelerates faster, as the salesman said it would.

By CTBuyer on July 13 @ 3:00 am
Good Car - Not Great
I bought my 03 Altima 2.5S 4 months ago. No problems at all! Interior is a little loud, but not bad. Interior materials are GM quality. Seats are comfortable, heat works ok, but have whistling when fan motor is on anything above "2". Nissan has to upgrade the interior materials, they just look and feel so cheap. Notice a little transmission "clunk" when accelerating fast between 1st and 2nd gears. The cupholders are awful. I can't get my cup of coffee out when I put it there. But overall, not a bad car for the money. Much better than any American car.

Great Car....
This is my 2nd Altima, my 1st was a 94 and they have made a lot of nice changes since then. I do have some minor squeaks inside the car, which needed a minor adjustment. The one 'mini' speaker next to the windshield really squeaks when it is cold and have heard some sort of rolling sound in the trunk. But overall I love the car and would recommend Nissan! Dealer is excellent!

Buyer beware
Do not buy this car! Our mis-adventure began at the dealership (Sutherlin Nissan in Ft. Myers). To many negative memories to put into 700 words. Just beware when purchasing from Sutherlin. The car had 2 tires shred within the first 2 months of ownership. To top it off, the tires put on the Altima are not only cheap, but very rare, and impossible to find. The car had rust within 3 months, the steering fluid had a leak. The service department was as rude and slow as the sales department. Bad experience all around.

1000 Miles on My New Altima
Altima 2.5S w conv package. Looked at 6 comp cars w my emphasis on a car that is roomy but not too conservative and a good value. The Camry/Accord are vanilla. Galant is dated. Liked Mazda6 but just wasn't comfortable enough in it. It drove great but was a little too sporty. Sebring was nice and good value but a little too old detroit. The Sonata is the content leader but still feels like cheap car. With 175 hp, head turning styling, content, and size, I got the best $20k sedan out there. It feels solid and drives very nice. It's bigger than it looks but drives smaller that it is. So far, no complaints reliability wise.

Comfort, convenience,BOSE,moonroof, leather, and power everything...add heated seats..a couple clouds..and heaven couldn't be finer! Effortless Power
Moved up from a 1999 Nissan Sentra GXE. The V6 Altima has gobs of power. Passing on 2 lane roads is so easy. The only drawback is the considerable torque steer with full throttle acceleration. Braking is smooth and well controlled. The car is quiet at highway speeds with little wind noise, but there is considerable road/tire noise on rough pavements.

Frustrated
I purchased in 2001, and it's been in the shop a total of 9 times so far. It is frustrating to see that a Nissan product be so disappointing. Performance is good; but built quailty is very very poor. Rattles, noises, sensor problems, radio quit, interior unravelled, and suspension replaced. I am going to trade it in for something that's not always in the shop.

Altima, Now Running With The Big Dogs
I just bought this car last week, but am still finding options I did't know it had, like the Homelink that I've already programed to my garage door opener. Nice car, both inside and outside. I could have gotten a 2003 Maxima for the same price as they're heavily discounted, but the Altima is by far the best looking and the 2.5SL model includes a lot of luxury standard features, such as leather. I considered buying the 2004 Maxima, but kept coming back to the Altima and have not regrets.

Great Value
After test driving the BMW 325, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and VW Passat, I was most impressed with the value of the Altima 3.5 SE. It has a very poised stance, excellent performance, and high quality. It was a simple choice to save thousands of dollars for a better car. I don't know what the fuss is about the interior quality. I wasn't impressed with any of the competition either, so I find this interior better than most.

My wife and I were shopping for SUVs. We drove all of them. While we were at the Nissan dealership, we saw the Altima. We both loved the way it looked. But how would it would drive? The dealer let us test drive one just for fun. The very next day we were back to sign the papers. This car rocks! I've never had so many people stop me just to look at my car. I still want a SUV or truck for 4X4ing in the snow. However, this car is my baby and we plan on having it for many, many years!!!

The real truth about it......
Beautiful vehicle. I purchased the Sheer Silver with every option except for the wood grain. The only things that I have added is a color keyed grill & had the original rims chromed. In doing so, that made the vehicle for me! It rides semi smooth for the most part but when the road gets bumpy, you'll know it. Fantastic handling & mileage! Interior quality is maybe just avergae. An annoying thump in the right front shock has been a problem though. Everything else has been great! Really will surprise you on how quick it is. Older MUSTANG 5.0'S BEWARE!

Do Your Homework Before Shopping !!
Buying a new car still requires mastering the "art of negotiation." The 2003 Altima clearly is several levels better than the 2001 it redesigned and replaced. Before buying a comparably price Honda or Toyota -- check out the Altima at your local Nissan dealer. The contemporary, up-to-datestyling and, above average comfort level are merit your consideration. Furthermore, you'll appreciate the refined 175 horsepower 4 cyl. engine. The Altima is not underpowered compared to many other cars in its class. For under 20K the Altima is a worthy competitor in its class. Check it out !!

More Bang for your buck
I'm guessing people who are in this market of buying this type of automobile have already looked into the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Mazda 6, BMW 5-series, MB E-Class, and Volkswagen Passat. Out of those cars only the BMW was the best. It had better handling, design, and of course a good reputation. However, the price is not appealing. The Nissan though, more moderately priced does share some of the BMW's characteristics as its ride is very stable (no bumps felt) and the car itself it breathtaking. I highly recommend this car for any person in the market of buying a mid- size auto. Don't go domestic and don't go for the V6 (eats too much gas).

My car has been great. I've had it 3 months now , and the only service need was replacing the light bulb in the ignition bezel. Other than that , not one other problem. The performance is outstanding for a 4 cylinder automatic , and it's fun to drive. There's plenty of space front or back , and has a huge trunk. The quality of the paint and fit and finish is excellent. This beats my girlfriend's Honda Accord hands down.

Near Perfect
At triple-digits on the open highway, this baby roars quietly enough to keep my wife asleep and unaware. Admirable acceleration too, especially for a 4- cylinder. I'm not sure what prior vehicals many of the other reviewers have owned, but considering the Altima is an entry-level mid-sized sedan, the interior is impressive. Sure, there's plastic. Sure, the latches on the arm rest are stiff and prone to breaking. But the car is $20k, people! My Altima is a joy to drive, still turns heads with it's sleek look (despite all the other Altima's on the road), and has been virtually problem free. I don't know about the rest of you, but Nissan got my Altima right!

Fully loaded - Get the Maxima!
I've had a ton of electrical problems with this vehicle. Don't rely on the handling of this car. Maybe with the entire car full and the truck stuffed with weights it might handle well. I was fooled by the looks and hype. The interior is gracious and roomy. The exterior looks are one of a luxury car. With the options that I purchased the price reached one of a well-equipped Maxima. So, to make a long story short this car isn't worth the money. Once again, Nissan has a good marketing strategy when it comes to this one, but that's about it.

Fun Car
I just purchased my Altima a week ago and I love it! A fun, fast car, however, at 670 miles it almost broke down. I stopped to get gas and it wouldn't start up again for five minutes. I'm hoping this is a fluke, and otherwise than that, I am extremely happy.

Cheap at an expensive price
The car looks good and has a decent mechanical reputation. The paint is rough the clearcoat is thin the dealer even made it a point that the car should not be washed except by hand or pressure washed. Putting on a coat of wax showed a porous uneven surface. The inside is appointed cheaply the cloth seats are a course mesh rough to the touch. Someone must have decided to shave a few yen off costs by shortening the seat backs and narrowing them. Anyone over six foot will need to duck down in the back seat and find a way to get in and out without hitting their head on something. The ride is sensitive to any and all bumps and roadway transitions

One Fast 4 Door
I bought this car because I was impressed by its performance the V6 w/5speed. I also love the exterior styling. Its one classy looking car. The front seats could be more performance oriented. For the performance this car is capable of it does'nt hold you in very well. If it had seats like the 350Z. I can get better than advertised fuel mileage if I keep it under 65mph. this car is like a race horse it wants to go 80+mph. You get on the freeway before you know it your going 80mph. You have to feather the throttle lightly to keep it under 80. I love this car I was not dissapointed in buying this car.

A HEAD TURNER
FAAAAAAAST CAR! Too fast for a middle model. Got pulled over for speeding 2 wks in a row; luckily I'm a female.I get nothing but compliments. Very sexy- head turner. Sporty. Easy to dress up. Engine is great.Interior could be refined, but could be the same elsewhere. Wouldn't trade it. ENJOYING THE RIDE!

2003 Altima 2.5SL
I'd highly recommend the 2.5SL over the 2.5S for the extra money. The Leather seats, Standard Bose, Wood Trim and Homelink make for a luxurious ride that easily rivals the high end Japanese brands (Acura, Infiniti, Lexus). The backseat is HUGE, your friends and family who drive in the back will definitely appreciate the roominess. The 4 Cylinder engine is perfect for the Altima, 175HP is plenty for the open road. The Altima frame stays strong at higher speeds (and the cabin stays very quiet) If you're in the market for a new sedan, I highly recommend dropping by your local Nissan and taking an Altima out for a spin, you will not be disappointed!

Altima-the 4 door Sports car
It was between the accord and altima. After careful thinking I chose the silver SL altima b/c: A. The accord is too conservative B. The 6 cd BOSE system C. Price D. Reliability and recommendations from friends and family I love this car. I upgraded from the civic so going from 115HP to 175HP was great. For those of you who wrote that the interior was cheap and are complaining. WHY DID YOU BUY IT? Yes, the interior is not as high quality as say a jaguar or a Porsche but for around 22,700 it is a great buy. I love the power windows up feature, homelink, heated seats, sound system, style, and roomy interior. I love driving this car

Fun to drive, great value
Just bought my Altima and could not be happier. Excellent build quality and features, especially considering cost of $19-22K. Have owned two previous Altimas,an Accord and a Camry and this one is MUCH bigger inside and MUCH better ride than any previous Japanese models. Buy it, love it!

Excellent Ride, Nimble Handling
I bought this car Oct 02 and it has performed superbly. I have no complaints for my Silver 2.5S. I feel the acceleration is the best in its 4cylinder class, its body style is sharp and sleek, and it does very well on gas.

bad brake pads
The only problem I have had with my 02 Altima besides the bad dealership experience in a persistant squeaking of the brakes. Repeated forays into the dealer to have this problem remedied had proven to be an excercise in futility. They only say the Nissan brakes are just that way and the new Maxima does the same thing.

I used to think my Supra was fast
Great car. Great looks. You get a lot of car for the money. Really moves and fun to drive. My SE handles a lot like my old 85 Supra. Miles per gallon is very good. 27 to 28 on long trips. 18- 19 stop and go city driving. Fun car to drive, people always looking at it in parking lots. Glad I got the SE with the Maxima engine instead of the 4 banger.

Go with Honda, not Nissan!!
This is an 'ok' car. not all that great. Reliablity is very questionable... I would go with a Honda Accord over this car anyday. Better performance, handeling, features, and RELIABILITY!! The Honda Accord is the car that the Altima wanted to be.

Great Car for Money
Just recently purchased 2003 2.5 SL. Initial impressions are great value for the money. Lots of extras, great outside styling, nice leather, great bose stereo. The interior is a little on the cheap side, but the leather and stereo make up for it. Overall, great value for the money. I may be nit picking on the interior quality as I'm the only one who has noticed out of everyone I've shown the car to. The 2.5 is a decent engine, not quite like the 2002 Maxima I traded in but I didn't expect it. I went for fuel economy and think I got it. I definately recommend this car.

The Altima Has Arrived!
I have owned three previous Altimas, my first bought in 1995. This is by far the best Altima ever made. This car truely can compete with the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and any other mid- size family sedan. I don't say this lightly. I have owned several Accords and a Camry. The car is quick, comfortable, roomy & stylish. It has all the creature comforts at a reasonable price. Gas milage is good in the city and great on the road. I drive in excess of 35000 miles per year. All of my previous Altima's have been very reliable and I expect this one to be as well.

By OURTOYS on February 2 @ 11:00 am
Perfect Car!
This is the first car that I have owned that I absolutley love!! My previous car was a Honda Civic and the Altima is a far superior car than the Civic. I commute in my car about 1 hour everyday. The seats are very comfortable and the controls on the steering wheel are a wonderful feature. It has a lot of headroom, my husband is 6'5" and he has more than enough room to sit comfortably in the car. I recommend the Altima to everyone I know.

By Love-A-Nissan on October 12 @ 11:00 am
Altima 2.5S
The car is a little over 6 months old and has 11,000 miles I still love it. I must agree with what many are saying about the poor interior fit and finish and "orange peel" look to the paint, but I feel that Nissan put the money where I would rather have it...in the chasis and engine. The ride is a little rough, but the car really sticks to the road and the steering is crisp. Although the build quality is a little sub-par, I have faith that this car will be just as reliable as the 5 other Nissans that have passed through my family. Besides, this car is far better looking and much more fun to drive than a Camry or Accord.

Another Altima ...not disappointed
My 5th Nissan, 2nd Altima..usually lease and don't find NMAC great to deal with on that, but interest rates too good to pass up for a purchase. Traded a Sentra SE -Altima and Senta SE have about the same power on the road but Altima's a better "ride". Good audio system , there's lots of interior storage and a huge trunk..Controls well placed. Got "base" S model with no frills.

Altima SE 2002
Sunroof whistles when going over 80mph, interior is made of cheap plastic, great power, rides very comfortable, very good leg room with forward seats in furthest rear position, cabin could be a little quieter because road noise can heard, steering could be tighter. Overall I give it an 8.8

This car has a lot of get up and go. The engine dosen't hesitate to accelerate at high speeds. There is slight roadgrain noise at about 75 mph, but that is forgiven because of the awesome Bose stereo. The interior could have been designed better or Nissan could have used better materials. Overall, this is great car that can get you from point A to B with no problems!

Performance Review
I am a person that loves to drive and have owned cars considered "higher end". Hower, beyond a doubt this is the most exciting vehicle I have ever driven. It is smooth, it corners, it hugs the road and does not wave with the winds. The cabin is a delight down to the deep cup holders so I don't worry about spillage. The beauty of the jeweled headlights and taillights and overall design of the car makes it one of the most beautiful on the highway. I cannot imagine what can be changed to make it better. I get comments from people all the time. I named it Snazzy, because it is. Happy driving. BV

Almost there
I have been very pleased with this car. Seats are very comfotable, tons, of space, plenty of power. The biggest negative is a slow shifting automatic transmission that I haven't adjusted to yet. The interior plastic dash and door panels are very cheap materials (but you can see that when you chose the car). The cup holders are worthless. Stereo is great and exterior styling is great.

What I've Always Wanted
I've always wanted this vehicle ever since the model style changed from the old one. It was love at first sight and now that I own it, I fall in love over and over again everytime I drive it. The car is amazing and I highly recommend it as a first choice for affordability and reliability.

stand out from the pack
I have had this car for 2 weeks now and I love it. I can't wait until it hits 1200 miles so I can really open it up. I have the black interior. If you scotchguard the seats and carpet you can avoid the lint problem. I noticed a bad seam on the door panel. The dealership has already ordered a replacement door and it will be replaced next week. The car is very roomy, great looking, and so fun to drive. I don't even get mad when I send in my 360 a month.

A review from an actual owner
When I read some of the other reviews, I think the other posters must have a different car then I do. Mine is a pre- owned 2002 model and its been wonderful. Its a huge step up from my little old Sentra, and the car is far superior in every way (short of gas mileage, but still not shabby for a vehicle of its size). Styling and Performance are exemplary, and the car is certainly worth the monthly payments.

My Best Friend
I first bought a '99 Altima in 2000 and fell in love with it.I only had the '99 for a year and a half.I wanted a different style and much newer. I had seen the '03 on tv and just kept saying that was my next car, and sure enough in sept '02 I bought a 2002 Altima, had nothing but problems, so in dec '02 I traded that in for 2003 Altima and was the best choice ever.Have not had any problems whatsoever.I love the ride it gives, very comfortable. If I was to trade this one in I would either get another Altima or a Maxima or a Murano.Nissan is my type of car and will always be.

Bought Altima with sunroof, antilock brakes, side air bags, fog lights. Nice car. 600 miles on it and already running 28-30 MPG. The 4 cyl is ample power, I had my doubts. Save your money and get the 4 cyl.

A great car for the price
This is a grat car for the price. Nissan seems to have really done their homework. The car is very comfortable, Bose sound system is excellent, and there's just enough features to make you feel like you are driving a very expensive car. It has more room than the Camry and looks better as well. I would give it a 10 but nothing is perfect in this world!

One word to describe the Altima, value!! You get tons of room and a wide assort of features for a good price. I purchased the 2.5S (auto) with the side air bags and ABS, microfilter, floor mats, and splash guards for $19,383. As far as the interior quality, if you're worried about that, spend more money and get the leather. As far as performance, I'm not going to win too many drag races with the 2.5S, but the car cruises really well at 80 mph on the highway. There is some road noise, but keep in mind you paid less than 20K and you are driving a Nissan, not an Infiniti.

Altima- Better Than Ever!
Can't say enough about the new 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5L V6 SE. Fell in love with it at first sight. Have owned the 1995 Altima and the 2003 has outdone itself! Beautiful exterior, really stands out on the road. Roomy interior, leather is wonderfully tailored. Bose 6 CD stereo is top notch! V6 engine is more than able to pass the competition! A smooth and quiet ride. Handles beautifully! No problems!

Great Car
I picked up on black on black Altima in the end of July 2003. So far I am extremely satisfied with the car. It turns heads and gets instant respect. The front seats are extremely comfortable and the leather finish is well made. The back seat and trunk are huge. There is a second dc adapter under the armrest which allows you to charge your cell phone without annoying cables exposed (even the shelf on the upper edge of the armrest has a punch out for the cell charger cable). This shows some real thought in the engineering of this car.

Don't trust the Bridgestone Tires
I purchased a 3.5 Altima SE in May . The next morning I was driving to work, at 65 miles an hour the front of the car began to shimmy. They said the tires were out of round and were at fault, that they had a lot of problems with them, The car was taken to a tire co. It took the Bridgestone dealer 8 tires to find 3 to put on my car I have less than 4 thousand miles on my car at this time, the sunroof is broken, pieces fell out of it the second time I opened it, Trust me, this will be my last Nissan....

Altimas are great cars!
I love the Altima! About 2 weeks new, someone hit me from behind in her old jeep while I was in line for the stop sign. I couldn't believe how much damage it did to the other vehica's front as compared to my back, which had a very minor dent that you could hardly see. I got it fixed and it looks good as new, again! My tall friend couldn't believe the head space. I enjoy the little sound signals if you forget to turn off the headlights or forget to remove the keys. Everywhere I go, people are always staring at my car, asking questions about it, or telling me how much they like my car. I get compliments on its unique red color, too.

2003 NISSAN ALTIMA - ROCKS!
After researching competing models, (Toyota Camry, Honda Accord)the Nissan won hands down! The Toyota Camry was completely overpriced for the options they offered and the Accord was spartan in appearance and performance compared to the Altima. The interior is sleek without being barren and offers the driver convenient features like in steering wheel radio and cruise control along with the trademark dashboard features that Nissan is now famous for. Acceleration is a BLAST! The 4 cylinder V-Tech engine with 170 horsepower offers fuel economy WITH powerful response that is difficult to find in most ordinary 4 cylinder autos.

The 2.5S engine still surprises me with its energy on the highway and its pickup during merges. The cabin room is fantastic. This is a car that is very comfortable to ride it it's back seat. The only options I went with were the splash guards, floor mates, and automatic/compass mirror. The automatic/compass mirror is a must (it saved me several times. The car has been excellent. This is our 4th Altima, starting w/a 1993. The Automatic transmission is not as enjoyable as my 99 SE limited, with Manual, but it's easier to drive in traffic. Keep Out The Noise
I have a 2003 Altima. I like it except for 1 thing...Cabin Noise. If you are not playing the radio, you can hear everything...The street you are riding on, when you stop you can actually hear engine noise. Spend a little money and insulate the noise from the engine compartment and the rest of the car so you can't hear the road noise....Or turn up the radio

This is the exact kind of vehicle I was looking for except I didnt know that until the initial test drive. The only problem that I've had is the transmission being very jerky in a sense, probably in relation to its newness. Other than that this is a vehicle that can fit any personality and any lifestyle. not too shabby
Purcased the vehicle for the wife with the intention of also using as family transport. She needed less of a car but I made the mistake of test driving the 3.5 SE first and could not even imagine having to drive the four banger ever. Basically got it loaded. Leather package, ABS, traction control, side air bags. haven't had it long but she is very happy so far. Have a buddy that owns the same car and he loves it also.

Great Start now improve it
Negatives: A problem is developing in the drive train. Has a lag or looseness while in drive (D) between 40-60 mph. Cup holders too deep for small cups. The stereo/climate display useless in day time while wearing polarized glasses. Too much road noise, Get the window washer nozzles off the hood. No hood prop. The positives: A vast improvement over 2000 Altima. They improved everything. Great acceleration. Outstanding fuel economy! I can get 30 + mph at 65 with no trouble.

disappointment
this car got really good reviews, went out and bought it... big mistake. always got crappy mileage about 12mpg mixed driving. im not kidding, i even tried driving like i was afraid of the gas pedal, not much help. finally at 7k 'service engine soon' light comes on. what the heck. forget this car, get an accord or a camry. i noticed something peculiar at the service center. it has both a nissan and toyota service department. nissans were rolling in by the dozens, didn't see a single car pull up to the toyota service

Autoway/Clearwater Altima Purchase
Shortly after buying my Altima, I drove it several hundred miles on vacation. It drove well, was very comfortable, and got great gas mileage right away. After 4 months, I am very satisfied with my Altima, however, I would not return to Autoway Nissan/Clearwater because of poor treatment by the sales manager there. My salesperson was great, but the sales manager was the typical "slick car salesman" who was quite disrespectful once the negotiations began. Autoway Nissan got the sale by default. Too bad because Nissan makes a quality product.

Altima Is Back !
Truly a wonderful automobile. It is my wife’s car and she doesn't like a harsh ride so we went with the 2.5S but the performance belies the four cylinders. It is no racer but has peppy performance and great comfort. Great rear seat room, huge trunk. At its best on the highway. Good acceleration, smooth and stable ride plus great mileage. The styling is the Altimas greatest strength. It makes a statement in class populated by "never took a chance, never will" styling. I recommend this car for many reasons but the biggest is the overall package. Styling, Roominess, performance, and price. If you buy the 2.5S, consider the Convenience Package.

Very Nice Car
I was very superised after I purchased this vehicle.I knew I like the Outside of the car, but the inside is extremely nice. They did a really nice job with this automobile.

This is my third Altima to buy. I like to trade or outright sell it every 3 years. I don't put a lot of miles on it, so I have no trouble selling it. I also keep up with the care of it such as oil change, tire rotation and the like. I have already promised to sell the car when I make up my mind to buy again. All around good car!

By D. W. on March 29 @ 11:00 am
It's one bad car!
I use to have to shut off the AC on my 2001 Altima to excellerate on to I-4. Now I have to hold on tight, what smooth power! Doing 80 and geting 30 mpg is outragous! What a car!

Dee's Review of Altima 2.5S
We bought this vehicle in the 2002 model for our daughter. We were so pleased with it that we bought the 2003 model for our son early (before he was eligible to drive). That gave me the time to have the pleasure of driving it for 9 months. Then, I had to turn it over and go back to driving my 2000 Infiniti I30t.

Nice car but troubles in initial quality
I've had this car for three months now and have put up over 3000 miles on it and already I've had a faulty shock and a leaking radiator replaced. I still love the car, but I question how many more parts are going to be faulty, if they're not already.

My Altima
After driving a Nissan Sentra for 4 plus years, I am loving the extra power and interior room the Altima gives me. I have nothing bad to say about the vehicle. I've financed it for 5 years, and plan on keeping it for the length of the loan.

By johnny6 on March 11 @ 11:00 am
Unbelievable
This car is spectacular, so far. Although, I have only had this car for one day, I would venture to say that I am in for a fun few years of driving. The torque steer is a bit to get used to, but seriously we are talking about a car that has 245 horse power and 246 foot pounds of torque. This car is an f'ing monster. Every nissan I have ever owned or driven has been high quality and this car is no exception. Highly recommended !

By Marina on December 6 @ 11:00 am
Bad engine
Many problems with the engine. It will stop in the middle of a highway with no power. Unsafe if problem is not corrected on time. 3 times for repair and only 11 months old.

I love this car. It is a beautiful car, and very nice ride. Smooth and quiet. It does have is quirks, but so do I.

Get one!
Very nice car for the money. I looked at the Saab 9-5, and the Toyota Solara and this is a better car for less money. The car looks great and is solid. You will get looks in this ride. The optional side sills are a nice touch.

Love My 2003 Altima
I must say I have only had this car for a week but I really like it. I am a little concerned by all the "issues" I have read about like the MAF sensor going bad, and I have already experienced the warm air coming thru the vent even when on the coolest settings, but I must say I still love this car. There are some kinks still but the styling and the performance with fuel economy have sold me. As long as I dont get stranded or have any major repair bills I consider this the best car I have purchased to date. Time will tell.

Disappointed!!!!
We bought a new Altima (4 miles)in Mar 03. In June, the car would not start. The dealership sent a tow truck to pick up the car. The tow truck guy told us that we had to press on the gas while trying to start the car. He did this for 5 minutes and the car started. The dealership tells me that the keys lost their programming and thus the car could not possibly start w/o being reprogrammed. Nissan is full of crap. If the keys were the problem then the car should have never started. Anyway, the car couldn't start again in October. Nissan was not as accomodating this time, so I am getting rid of my Altima and never again will I buy a vehicle from Nissan.

NICE CAR
VERY HANDSOME AUTOMOBILE. VERY ROOMY INTERIOR AND VERY COMFORTABLE. THE 2.5 LITER ENGINE HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER. THE RIDE IS VERY SMOOTH AND QUIET.HAS MANY NICE ELECTRICAL FEATURES. I RECOMMEND IT.

Love my Altima
I love my 2003 Altima! I have over 20000 miles on it and have only owned it one year. I enjoy driving it and have received many compliments on my vehicle. I have even helped 3 people I know decide to buy one. Fun car for a good price!

Taking Over the Flagship
Nissan says that Maxima is their flagship. Having owned my Altima for a mere six months, I'd argue that point. The dramatic new body style and sleek design drew me to the car at first sight. I owned two Sentras before buying my Altima and those lasted from 1988 through 2003. After 15 years, I don't think Nissan could have given me a better car to replace my Sentras with. Forget the Maxima, choose the performance and fun and downright sexiness of the Altima! I LOVE mine! Michael Stevens Brandon, MS

What I think
This car handles well, fun to drive, yet very praticle. I went to tail gate and had room for chairs table Bar-b-q pit and all the goodies. For the money it is my "Best Buy". Acceleration is perfect on any grade. I am not left wanting for power in my driving experience.

Nissan Altima
The altima 2.5 4 cylinder performs very well. It is very good on gas highway/city. It had great storage area.

I had to have one!
I finally decided to buy a new car. As I had seen the new Altima recently, I had to have it. I do a lot of travelling about the city and state, so I rack up on the miles. I love the fuel economy. I receive compliments on the exterior and the interior design. I am very well pleased with my choice of a new car. I had always felt that I would always drive a SUV, but the Nissan has forever changed my view. If I do trade it in, I will definitely purchase another Nissan (most likely the newest Maxima)...

Nissan 3.5 Fun on Wheels
I own the Nissan 3.5L 2003 and let me tell you its been a gem so far. Its fun to drive and has a ton of power. I would strongly recommend this car to folks that like high horsepower and a not so high car payment.

My experience
Love to drive this classy car. Great handling and amenities - temperature controls, lights, radio and cd controls on the steering wheel, etc. A great car to own.

The ride
I have been very satisfied with my Nissan Altima. I test drove the leading cars in this price range and found the Altima to be the smoothest most comfortable ride.

Couldnt be Happier
I purchased my Altima after having a Sentra for a little while. I absolutely love the car, and couldnt be happier w/ my nissan products. I absolutely love the car, the gas mileage is great and the car runs excellent especially on long rides.
