My Altima 3.5 SE
Have had my Altima 3.5 SE for 2 weeks. Pros: Performance, Exterior(I've had at least 8 total strangers compliment my car..3 of whom thought it was a Lexus), Interior (huge, luxurious & nice in black). Cons: Large turning radius, slightly noiser & roughier ride than Camry/Accord, Some cheap plastic Overall...great, livable car for the commute/family with awesome power & fun to drive aspects....Now I just have to worry about tickets...

High Speed Noise
I purchased an Altima 3.5 SE just before Christmas. A shrill, shearing sound occasionally crops up emanating from somewhere in the front on the drivers side when travelling at speeds above 70 mph. It last for up to a minute or so. The dealer first thought it was the tire, then the strut, and now wind noise. Have not been able to pinpoint the cause at this point. I am about ready to invoke my Lemon Law rights and ask Nissan to replace the vehicle.

Excessive noise in Altima 3.5S
I own 3.5SE 5-speed manual Altima for two weeks and I really enjoy it’s performance. However, I had to visit dealership two times due to excessive noise problem coming from back suspension. It is some kind of rolling-metallic-hollow noise, sometimes reminding kicked-basketball sound. It occurs at any speed and it's frequency is not related to speed - just the volume which peaks at around 90km/h resonating and piercing ears. Dealership so far was not able to fix this problem

Nissan has a winner in 2002
What a good re-design Nissan made with the 2002 model, the 4 cyl. drives like a 6 cyl. and the drivers space has the most room out of any other 2002 model I test drove within the $20000 limit. Even a 6 footer can be comfortable in this one!

Lean Mean Driving Machine (3.5SE)
What a great vehicle to drive! I have driven just about every sedan in its class and this car drives and handles the best. Highway mileage for this beefy V6 is unheard of! Magnussen Auburn Nissan willing to deal when other dealer won't sell below MSRP.

Excellent Sporty Car in a Mid size body
You get the best of both worlds, a sporty looking car with the size of a midsize sedan. Comfort, quality, design, all great!

Altima Valus (Ultimate Value)
We had a used 94 Altima SE for 3 years, enjoyed the car and had good resale value. We now have the 02 Altima SE. My wife and I believe it is truly the sexiest auto on the road. The V6 deserves its acclaim. Power and decent MPG (21.6). I love to drive it. It meets our expectations and more.

Serious Satisfaction
Very enjoyable automobile. It may not be a BMW! Although it's a great value for your dollar. I travel up to 1,250 miles per week. After more than 10K miles, it's comfortable, responsive, quiet, and gets great gas mileage. Best MPG was 35.5, average is 31.5, worst was 23. Most of my miles are highway (very little city driving). Not one problem or trip to the dealership since the first oil change.

Just Great
This is a great car. A lot of interior room with great handling. I have problems with the heater blower. It makes a whistling sound and have not been able to get it replaced due to shortage in parts. Otherwise ZI love to drive it and take the car everywhere. Better fuel economy on the highway then in the city. Premium gas is a pain but is worth the extra dollars for the performance.

JUST PURCHASED ALTIMA
was looking for a new car. on way to lexus dealer ,,, stopped in to look at maxima, and pathfinder. once saw altima, drove it and bought it... less than 2000 miles. everthing works, got the top model.... very nice and all controls are very well thought out... i hope it holds up being a new model and everything, love it! saved thousands over the lexus, if as well built as wife's 1991 300zx, then it will be a great car...

Great Car
Had my Silver 3.5SE for a week now. I am in love! It is fast, yet smooth and seats four very comfortably even with the front seats all the way back. Many people have complained about the cheap, plastic interior. I on the other hand think it looks fine. If you look at other vehicles in the price range there isnt much out there that is any better. The V6 even gets pretty good gas milage for the power you get out of it!

Love at first sight
I went out for a 2.5 SL, but when I saw the duel exhaust and the spoiler on the 3.5 SE I had to have it. It didn`t have leather so I had them install the Nissan after market leather and boy am I glad I did, it`s so much nicer than the factory leather. I also had a gold package done(the car is gold) and it is just georgous. I can`t say enough about the power of the 3.5, every time I step down on it I am truly amazed. I got it early so I paid a little more but NO regrets

Initial Report - This Car Is Great!
3.5 SE, black, automatic, with every option. Car is absolutely great. Had researched a lot and saw mostly good reviews, with a few bad ones. Not sure what these folks mean when they mention the "unrefined interior" or the "stiff ride". The build quality is excellent, and the ride is very smooth. Performance is awesome. Have already gotten a dozen compliments on the look. Only have 500 miles on it, so I'll post another review in a few months. But so far, this car looks to be just wonderful.

The Future is now
I has pleasantly surprised with the all I got for the same price as an 2001 Altima- I don't know how they do it. A large Sedan with power and quality of an Infinity at a price below Toyota Carmy.

Dont shop at Northside Nissan at SC.
If you want a good deal and honest people dont go to Northside nissan. My experience was awfull. They are pushy to run your credit and they can trick you into a suckers deal. The Nissan product is awesome but the dealership gives it a bad name...

Good, but. . . .
Nice car, but not quite up to the hype. Nice thrust/acceleration for a 4 cyl. Could use more noise dampening to block out road noise. The heater/cooling fan is TOO NOISY!!

Great Mid-size sedan, Powerful 4cyc, and V6 engine, a lot of fun to drive in and out of traffic, people love it every where you go.

Altima Leaves others In The DUST!!!
Nothing gives you more bang for the buck. The four cylinder is quick but the V-6 is lightning FAST and RESPONSIVE! There is a large difference in performance and features in the models. Gas mileage 22 city, 26 highway. The only part that I changed was the air filter. I replaced it with a K&N air filter ($40), this is a MUST HAVE since cars from the manufactur come with basic parts. The filter improved my overall gas mileage and added a few more horses thus a bit more torque.

By nbarry on December 26 @ 6:53 am
Family car that's fun to drive
Had the 3.5SE 2 weeks now - great performance, gas mileage better than the EPA rating even with my lead foot. The ride isn't as smooth as my mom's Camry, but the Camry lacks real personality. Huge back seat, great drink holders. Mirror remote control seems cheap, as well as the interior door handles. A fun car that doubles as a family transport.

THIS IS IT!!!
I have driven a Toyota since 1984, and assumed that I would always remain Toyota loyal. My son kept talking about this new Altima, so i went on the internet and did my homework. I found out that the Altima beat out the Avalon on everything but weight (it was almost 300 pounds heaver). So off I went to see what all the fuss was about. From the moment I test drove the car, I was in love!! This car has as much room as my 1996 Avalon had, but with all the bells and whistle's. All I can say is please start a savings account, because you're going to need it. On my first day out, I looked down at the odometer, and I was doing a smooth 80 mph! All I can say is go for it.

IN THE MARKET TO BUY
I love the looks of the car...only 2 faults that I see are the cheap plastic interior parts & the goose neck arms on the trunk. Would like to see the price of anti-lock brakes reduced...Honda & Toyota charge half as much for this feature. ABS should be standard on a 20k car.

driven-2002 Altima 3.5 SE
Purchased my vehicle in January. I do an extensive amount of driving as a sales rep and find the vehicle comfortable even for extended trips and extremely fun to drive. Performance is impressive and mileage is reasonable for that performance. I am very satisfied to date.

In love with the V6 Power
I've been wanting this car since March of 2001, when I saw what they have been doing with the redesign of the car and I must say I've been quite pleased!!! The car is a dream to drive, compared to my previous Altima, it was a 98.

Out of A Lincoln TC and into a fun car
Traded in a 95 Linc Town Car for my 2.5 S with AT. It was the beautiful design that seduced me. I kept the price down by not getting leather or a sunroof (never used it in my Town Car). I like the interior design but am having a brushed aluminum interior trim kit put in to make the interior look really hi-tech. It goes on in the same places as the wood trim. It looks great with the gray interior. I may put leather in later. I enjoy the response & handling. Great job, Nissan! Only problem I have is some kind of cord or wire harness hits against the back side of the glove box every time I take off, stop, speed up or slow down. I hope they dont have to pull the dash.

Chuck's praise
My wife got rid of her 2000 Toyota Camry just one year after purchasing it because she had seen the new Nissan Altima. Although, I think that I drive it more than she does and I'm more of an SUV person. I am really glad that I pushed her to test drive this vehicle especially the 3.5 V6 model. It's taking a little while to get used to all of the looks from everyone on the highways and at restaurants. I can't wait to see what Nissan does to top this vehicle or can they?

What an engine!!
I was thinking about buying something smaller, but the test drive sold me. The wonderful 3.5L V-6 engine is this car's best selling point. After having lived with the car for 3 months, the engine is still the cars strongest point. It just never fails to impress. Handling is another strong point, although it does get a little unsettled on bumpy pavement, but never enough to throw the car offline. The exterior of the car very pleasing to the eye. I think the profile is the cars best view IThe interior is very quiet. Road noise is very subdued, as is wind noise, except for an air leak from the sunroof.

By Mark_ace7 on September 20 @ 3:00 am
Very Unhappy
If it drove as good as it looks, I would be very happy. My stick grinds into 2nd and 3rd and the dealer says its normal. The car also vibrates a great deal from external noise (other cars, trucks, etc..) The vibration is strong in the stering wheel, pedals, and stick. I want my old car back.

XMAX
Having owned 3 Maxima SE's, I never thought I would consider buying an Altima. I was looking at the Acura TL Type S, Jaguar X type and pre-owned BMW 330 series. On a visit to my dealership, they had a silver/black leather on the floor, and I could'nt believe I was in a Nissan dealer! The Maxima was starting to look very dated, but the Altima grabbed my attention, especially after I spent a day driving it around. Needless to say, I now have a Silver/Black leather parked in my driveway, and feel that I received great value for 30K!

Almost as good as my hubby's Infinity
I just purchased my Altima SL on 3/29/02 but have found it to be a wonderful car to drive and look at. The following day, my husband bought a new Infinity I35. Although his car is a bit more luxurious, my Altima shares many of the features of his car. Although my Altima is a 4 cy., it has a good pick up when I need it. Smooth ride is great. It just took one drive and I was sold on the car. The dealership where we purchased the car was top notch. All car buyers should be so lucky to have the professional, caring salesman we had.

By BrianP on December 7 @ 3:00 am
Sweeeet...however...
Very pleased over all, however, a few things left me a bit disapointed: 1) no standard fog lights on 2.5 ("fully loaded") SL model. 2) steering wheel mounted "convienience" controls are NOT illuminated 3) no spare change small storage compartment. My coins rattle all over the bigger compartments, and I have to use the map light to see the mounted controls.

By B. Mullins on September 3 @ 3:00 am
I tested them all ... this is the one!
Ideally, I was looking for a car that was fun to drive, 6 cylinders, comfortable, with a higher level of features (luxury) than I had previously. I drove many cars: camry, accord, millenia, some SUV's. So I went and drove the Altima. This car is fun, responsive, comfortable, and while not as quiet as a camry, it is certainly much quieter then my other cars and I consider it VERY acceptable at highway speeds. Altima has won the North American Automobile of the Year. It is a well deserved award for a sports sedan in the mid $20,000's. Test drive this car after the others and you should feel the differences.

By Amit on September 3 @ 3:00 am
Look out the Nissan is coming
THe new ALTIMA is way better than any other car in it's class. Pickup , accelatation and the comfort of the Altima shouldn't be compared with the CAmry. It's like 10 timeas faster then the cars in it's class.

By on the go on January 12 @ 11:00 am
Is that the NEW ALTIMA?
We have owned our car for only one week and my husband and I totally LOOOOOVE this car. This is the first car we have owned that we actually fight over driving. We took it on our first long- distance trip in the pouring rain and it handled beautifully. We get head turns wherever we go.

By djohn on October 9 @ 11:00 am
Fits me
I tried all of the competing makes, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and etc. The bottom line is I'm 6'3" and the Nissan was the only car that I fit into. The car during the test drives stood neck n' neck with all of the others. The interior was not the best of the lot but very functional. I bought the car and have nothing but kudos from everyone who has seen it. I travel 66 miles per day for work and I am averaging 28 to 29 mpg with less than 1000 miles on the odometer.

SWEETNESS!!!!
After buying my 98 accord ex coupe, I thought I would be lifetime Honda owner. That was until I saw the Altima. For a 4 cyl, it has plenty of power. I love the tail lights, probably the main reason I bought the car. This car is BMW in the front, Passat from the side, and Lexus in the rear.

Exhilirating Ride with 175 Ponies
Bought mine 4/13/02 as my first new car. Whate a rush :) I was considering the 3.5L SE (more power) but changed my mind when I test drove the 2.5L S. Very smooth ride and with today's gas prices cannot beat the 32 miles per gallon on the highway. All models have the same interior unless you get leather. I am extremely happy with the purchase and I totally recommend it, especially for a young woman, you will turn heads, I was told that it looks like a new Lexus.

By DCrane on June 17 @ 11:00 am
room with zip
Planned to buy a Passat until I saw the first one of the new Altimas. Checked it out and was very impressed. The handling is incredible, changes lanes as fast as my race tuned Datsun 2000! And if you are over 6 feet tall, this is the sedan for you. More leg room front and back than my wife's Volvo. The car has some great, well thought out features normally found on more expensive models. The key fob that opens the windows remotely is a great feature I didn't give much thought to but use daily, and the Bose stereo has got to be heard! Be prepared to find onlookers gathered around the car when you come out of the grocery store.

My New Altima
I purchased the 2002 Altima 2.5L S with the automatic transmission. I was torn about whether or not to spend the extra $3,500.00 and get the 3.5L V6. I have to say that I am very pleased so far with the 4 cylinder. It is very quick and surprisingly powerful. The new body style looks more elegant and is a very welcome change to last year's dull body style. The only thing I think that Nissan could have done was spice up the interior a litlle more, or maybe its just me? Overall for the one month that I have had it I am very satisfied. I'm one who tends to keep their car until its ready for the junkyard. Hopefully, I'll still feel the same about it in 7 to 10 years.

By Leena on May 30 @ 11:00 am
Awesome Vehicle
The new Altima is the car of all cars. The 4 cyl. has more power than the 6 cyl. Montero I had previously. It's very roomy and comfortable inside and if that's not enough, it's a major eye catcher! What a beauty! Two thumbs up to Nissan for redesigning this awesome vehicle!

By mistoova on May 30 @ 11:00 am
pretty cool
Purchased car a week ago (Apr 2002). So far, it's great. Nice pickup for a 2.5 4 cyl. Rides smooth. Great handling. Has a nice sporty look to it. Quiet ride. Plenty of leg room. I should have purchased the Bose sound system. The factory installed system isn't that great. Too bad I didn't think about tinted windows when I went to the dealer. Overall, I think it's a great buy.

At Last
Having driven an 1989 and 1993 Maximas I was beginning to wonder if Nissan would ever again put out a car that I found attractive and a good performer. Well now they've done it. I've had it for two months and the performance and appearance are great. The torque steer at low speed when you really jump on the gas seems excessive. Handling is otherwise impressive.

Some minor problem
Got it 3/23/2002 and have 2500 miles on it. It handles very good, and has amazing acceleration. Some minor problems:1)this thing is a gas hog.I get an average of 25MPG but I have to put premium in it. 2)There are some cheap interior details: The center console and the trunk have to be slammed hard to be closed. The center area in the dash is made out of cheap plastic.3)I am getting some noise on my left side when I am doing over a 100MPH but since the noise comes and goes randomly I wont worry about it.4)My right speaker vibrates too much when I crank the stereo and listen to something with a lot of bass but I can always turn the voume down!

Great Buy, performance for 5
Purchased my Altima less than a month ago, I just hit 1000 miles and am already getting 28 miles/gallon. I have not owned anything but German since my '91 300z but this car brought me back. Nothing like passing the BMW's with three of your friends waving. I was looking at AUDI but you can not beat this car for the price.

Will never buy a Nissan again!
The transmission went in this car with less then 3,000 miles on it and left me stranded on vacation. I wanted a new transmission they said no it had to be repaired. The car now gets 13 miles to the gallon city and about 20 on a trip compaired to 22 and 30 prior to this happening. I spoke to both the dealer and Nissan and they both pointed the finger at the other and were willing to do nothing about it. Worst customer service I ever dealt with. Save your money!

This car is a lemon.
This car has been in the shop for 4 days out of the 21 that I've had it. There is a thump/rattle that they can't find, a vibration when the AC is on and car stopped, and the other day the remote entry stopped working and the doors would randomly lock and unlock themselves as I drove around.

Almost Got it Nissan
I really had my heart set on getting this car after seeing it on the road. The exterior design is amazing. The car is very fun to drive, BUT, and this is one big but, what was Nissan thinking when they designed the interior. My friend's ford escort has a higher quality interior. The first car I got in at the dealer couldn't be started. The next one had broken door locks. The one I finally drove seemed ok until the arm rest cut my hand and the trunk release was broken. Given all these problems,I'm getting a Camry. It isn't as fun to drive, but it is high quality.

New Car Adventure
It is a good looking car. We get many good compliments about it. Rides very smooth. Back seat is like riding on air. Front seat equally smooth. Lots of room front and back. Power to excel in passing, when needed. Gas milage is ok, but we might have done a little better had we opt to go with the 2.5 4 cycl, which would have taken the lower grade or gas consistently without a reduction in MPG. With the 3.5, 6 sycl, higher grade is recommended for better overall performance and MPG, but you can get by with a lower grade and use high grade every 3-4 fillups.

I have not had this vehicle long, but I already love it. I know I will love it for years to come. I will post again in a year or so, to show that I still love this car. I cannot find any problems with it. Some say the interior is cheap, but for the amount I paid, it's exactly what I expected.

I PURCHASED THE CAR IN MARCH 2002 AND I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEMS. MY ONLY COMPLAINT WITH THIS CAR TO DATE IS THE MATERIAL OF THE UPHOLSTERY (SEATS). IT ATTRACTS AND HOLDS LINT AND CANNOT BE CLEANED BY MERELY VACUUMING. I HAVE TO USE A LINT BRUSH.

Velvet Is In All Year!
I purchased my 2.5SL in October '01 (around the time it first came out). Took a test drive and was hooked. It's a beautiful car (Velvet Beige of course). Drives smoothly. Definitely an eyecatcher. Gets a lot of double takes. And the best part about it is -- I look good driving it!

Hey, this car rocks man! I love it. I can blow by beamers in a blink of an eye. I have already pushed 120 in this baby! How about all y'all? Just watch for the coppers drivin this baby! It is very fun and easy to drive, the handling, the performance, can't be beat for the price you pay for it. It's the best car that you can buy for under 30 grand man!

Just bought my new Altima...
I've driven Toyota's exclusively since the age of 16, but instead of another Camry, I bought the Altima this time, and FOR LESS MONEY. I have to say, originally, I wanted it because of the way this car looks. It is super- super. You know? But as far as the nuts and bolts, I find the 4 cyl to be PLENTY zippy, especially over 3500 RPM's when it really kicks in. I'm not wild about the placement of the air vents in the severely slanted dash - too far from my face. But other than that, the interior and exterior of this car are wonderful. That BOSE stereo also makes my rearview mirror vibrate some, but who can really complain about that?

Loaded 2002 Altima 2.5SL
With the 2.5SL Altima loaded, I felt I made the best purchase of my life. No Regrets at all. Compared to Honda and Toyota, its was a quick decision. And specially, compared to the Euro-cars, its a no brainer. This is not what we call "you get what you've paid for", but more of "you get a lot more that what you've paid for" situation. More power and better looking styling than most car in its class. I had the sporty-looking sheer silver color with all black interior dash and black leather seats....and just imagine.......what a classy sport sedan. I feel this car can stand right beside the best of them, BMW 3series, Audi and VW, when it comes to overall VALUE.

Not worth the money
If the Altima truly wants to compete with the Accord and the Camry, then Nissan has to stop adding on all the extras, that already come with on the Accord and Camry. I love the engine and the color but that's about it. The BOSE system that came in most of the pewter colored cars that had the other features I wanted is definitely not worth the extra $800. I paid for it.

Very Happy !
I bought this car in November and have put about 8000 miles on so far, including a 2000 mile trip. I fell in love with the styling at first site and ended up getting an SL with most options. I have no complaints and I get unsolicited compliments about the car from complete strangers almost every week. This model is not a sports car, and does not perform like one, but even the 2.5 is more than adequate for me. I love it !

Beautiful body design, great power, turn circle is to way to large, cheap plastic interior, turns to easy (light steering) when you are up in speed.

This was my last choice of car to check on my list of Honda, Passat, Toyota, Mazda, even BMW. I took a test drive & bought it! Incredible power in the engine! Drove a Suburban 7 yrs & was scared of a small car & no power. I got this car black & loaded with all the bells. Have 480 miles on it & people stop me all the time to say how cool the car looks. I'm very happy & would recommend to anyone.

This car is a real improvement over the pevious year models. I have owned a 98" and 99' and never had any problems with either of them. The 2002' model looks and drives great and is a real improvement overall compared to previous years. One thing that does concern me is a thumping noise that occurs during acceleration and while turning. It has been getting worse over the months and we have 4,300 miles. According to a Service rep at Bankston Nissan of Dallas it isn't normal. I will have it checked out soon.

I bought this 2001 Altima with the 4 cylinder,moonroof,leather..fully loaded... and have not looked back! Tried the Lexus and others and I found that the Altima had the power, the looks and room that I required. If you want a fun ride..its either this car or the Chrysler/PT Cruiser. These two are the best rides for the money. Now I have to buy my wife one..or else! Do yourself a favor..live a little..get one!

We got the 2.5S model with the standard transmission. We're glad we got the standard, it is so peppy and poweful, I can't even tell that it is a V-4. We're both very tall, over six feet, and can fit comfortably in the front of the back. Excellent ride. We hope to have it forever.

By Sactown on December 23 @ 11:00 am
It's all that
Eye-catching, comfortable for 5 (I'm 6'4" and 4 other adults fit nicely), quick when you want it, thrifty if that's your goal, power sound system, and that ain't all. Load up with options and you're still priced under an equivalent Toy/Honda/Passat. Oh yes, it's got a huge trunk and sips at the Regular tank at the gas station.

Just What I Was Looking For...
My 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 S was just the car I was looking for. It's 4 cylinder engine has more horsepower (175)than the V6 (170hp) Chevrolet Malibu that I traded in. This is much more car than I have ever had in the past! The convenience package is a definite PLUS... as is the power sunroof and the rear spoiler. The keyless entry allows me to roll down the front windows with just the touch of the button. This is VERY nice on a simmering hot day when the car has been locked up. To top is off, the body style is S-L-E-E-K!! You won't regret purchasing a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 S!!

Buy this Car before your Neighbor does
I puchased this car in November of last year. I have put 12,000 miles on the car so far without any major problems and only two minor ones. A spring broke in the lid for the cupholders and the car was delivered without the steering wheel controls for radio. Both of these were fixed by the dealership with no problems. I do notice some wind noise at high speeds, but not enough that it would deter another purchase.

Pure Sports Sedan
A real sporty sedan that isn't meant for driving in the slow vehicle lane. Traded in a 99 Maxima for the 02 Altima. When I compared the MSRP, the Altima was actually $200 more! The only thing to justify that price was the stronger engine - the materials used are substandard when compared to the pricetag. If you're looking for a pure sports car that you can squeeze the family into and not get socked by the insurance cost, then this is the car for you. You've got to give something to get something.

By turbogirl on October 31 @ 11:00 am
awesome family car
The new Nissan Altima is an awesome family car. I have the 3.5SE which delivers power and performance. The interior is a bit scaled down to cheap plastic but the seating is comfortable and roomy. The bose stereo has a great sound. The trunk is roomy except for the trunk lid brackets which can get in the way. This is one of the best cars I have ever purchased. With a few after market add on's, it makes for a really hot car.

By marco polo on July 27 @ 11:00 am
Design+Performance = Best Buy
No wonder this was the North American Car of the Year. The design/style and the performance of the 3.5SE engine is unmatched for a vehicle in this price range. Nissan has outdone its competitors! I can't wait for the aftermarket performance parts from Stillen or Jim Wolf Technology to become available. The engine has untapped resources waiting to be unleashed.

We purchased our first Nissan Maxima in 1981. We found it so dependable and trouble free that we then purchased 3 more Maximas over the next 20 years. On all of these cars we have experienced no repairs during the 100K miles and few after that. Earlier this year it was time to upgrade our 1996 Maxima, but found the 2002 Altima with a much better looking exterior body, yet basically the same size of car and power under the hood. Hopefully the 2002 Altima will prove to be as reliable as the Maxima.

Great Car
I bought a 2002 Nissan Altima, 5 spd, leather, moon roof, spoiler, wood trim, 3.5L. This is a great car. It is very well built and is the bset car I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot). I had a problem with my fuel pump however Nissan fixed it right away. Don't think though you can skimp on less than 92 octane gas. The car runs much poorer with anything less.

We got a 2002 2.5 SL with ABS/side airbags, seat warmers, sunroof for $290 a month with $4000 down--a pretty good deal. We leased the car at Quirk, but also spent a lot of time at Frost. Frost was great, but they weren't able to match the price at Quirk. So far (it has been almost a month), we are very pleased with the car. As the other reviews have mentioned, it really does turn heads. It's a peppy drive, and a great buy for the money.

Holy Smokes
I've put 5k on this car in about 2 months and love it more everyday. Great balance of power and economy. I drive about 45 miles to work each way with about 25 of it highway and the car constantly gets 27mpg or more. Not bad for 240 hp. Interior is not nearly as bad a people say. It is different but most importantly it is tight, no rattles nothing so far. Cupholders could hold a small child, or at least a 32 gatorade bottle, brakes are great as I've already missed a deer thanks to them. Other note, states it needs premium fuel, runs on (89) no difference in milage or pickup and it does not ping. I HIGHLY recommend this car.

My Review
I got my 2002 Altima because my 2000 Altima was a lemon. The Dealership was great in working to buy back my car. The 2002 overall is just fair. I have an annoying rattling sound coming from dome light that I have to take back to the dealershio again (second time) to fix. The design of the exterior is beautiful. Renault (parent company) is showing it's crappy history of not paying attention to build quality & detail.

This is one AWESOME vehicle
I bought a Nissan Altima after owning 3 different SUVs, all 6 cyl. This 4 cyl. Altima outruns everyone of them and they were some pretty expensive SUVs, we are not talking Rodeos here. This vehicle made it to Disneyland, CA from Las Vegas, NV in a little over 3 hours! Incredible.

Great car!. If you don't want all the bells and whistles you can get it for well under $20K. The stick shifts well. The 2.5L has plenty of power. I've had mine about 8 months now and still love it. When I went away for a week for vacation and came back my heart was pounding from anticipation of driving this car! Getting 25-29 mpg depending on conditions. A/C and heat are almost instantaneous. Seats are very comfortable. Steering is solid and it holds the road very well. I've gotten so many complements on this car! If you're looking for a good solid car that moves, is fun to drive, practical, and won't break the bank, this is it!

By sauron666 on November 24 @ 11:00 am
Not the same car as in the commercial.
Actually, I really like the car alot, but since delivery have had an ongoing problem with driveability. That is, bad tires are giving me a rotten taste in my mouth. Nissan switched to Continental all-season tires from Firestones. These tires do not sit well in the lot. I have been told to drive my car more to even out flat and high spots, but the bouncing and steering pull are driving me nuts. Nissan says it doesn't warranty new tires. So much for the whole car concept!

The best I've ever had!
Only two weeks old but first impressions are that this is an outstanding car. Purchased the 3.5 V-6 and happy that I did. Test drove the 2.5 and it was very good but the V-6 is like a rocket. Tip, hold down your cost buy selecting a model without Sunroof/Bose/Leather, that can run you up 3 grand. Good negotiations and shrewd comparisons with on line quotes got me the rear spoiler. It doesn't do anything but looks sharp. The 3.5 model is loaded with CD/Power seat/ 17"alloys/Keyless entry/alarm just about everything. Digital gas usage tells me I'm getting 25.9 to the gallon. I'm very happy with this car. My advice GO FOR IT.

A WINNER
The Altima 2.5S is a very roomy and elegant car. Power is better than most other 4's that I have driven and gas milage is above average for a car this size. Even though the interior is plane, it is functional with controls in very good locations. Ride is very good and evey though I was told there would be a lot of wind noise, I have found that to be untrue. I have the Bose 6-disk system and the sound is far above average, controls for the systems are well thought out.

Altima stole us away from Toyota
We've been a big Toyota supporter, but The Altima SE stole us away from a Camry. At first my wife was pretty skeptical of test driving an Altima(she was thinking of the previous model years, bland!). She was pretty set on a Camry. That all changed after driving an ALtima. The exterior is no contest, Altima SE is far superior. Altima SE has 50 extra horses and is extremely quiet. The ride is very smooth and comfortable. Camry beats Altima for interior quality, but not by much. Good gas mileage(27 mpg), with the only down side using premium fuel. To sum it up, Superior looks, more power, more room, switched us to Nissan (Still love my Tacoma).

Fun 3.5SE
This has been a great car. Infinity performance and looks for a lot less. The V6 is incredibly smooth and powerful. Looks great, dual chrome exhaust, 17-inch wheels and sport suspension! Important to note, was T- boned and spun through an intersection 3-months after purchase (individual ran red-light), safety features, airbags performed admirably and walked away from accident. Great car!

Smooth Criminal
This car is fun to drive. It just ask you to give it gas everytime you get in the car. The car holds the road in all the turns. As I was driving down the interstate one day a Volvo owner decided he want to have a little race. I gave him a thirty yard head start and blew his doors off. I never saw that guy after that. My kids named the car smooth criminal because the car moves faster than you think you are going so you know a speeding ticket is just around the corner. LOL!! This car is a real kicker.

The four cylinder model offers suprising power when coupled with the five speed transmission. The large windows offer great visability and ease of driving. Rear passenger accomodations are excellent and capable of supporting three adults comfortably. Fit and finish fpr this car are exemplary. Ergonomically the car is near perfect with a telescopic and tilt steering collumn. The stock audio selection is adequate and crisp. Over the road noise is minimal.

Bought the car for my wife in March. She adores it. She loves the way it looks, rides, and, most importantly, accelerates.I have a 2000 V-6 Passat w/ 5 speed and it is not even in the same league as far as horsepower. The VW is far superior in steering, shifting, and workmanship. The Altima is far superior in raw power, sport style handling, looks, and the Bose system rocks! Basically, I adore both cars for different reasons. If you love a stick, all drivers should try both and let your heart decide. Love it! Even the 4 cyl. engine delivers awesome power- same horsepower as other 6 cyl. such as Accord and Camry. I was a die hard Honda fan until I drove this car. And talk about being the center of attention . . . . Easy on the wallet too- insurance only increased slightly and it's a lot of car for the money. Since I have an 11 month old, the interior room and trunk space is significant-- backseat seems bigger and more comfortable than 2000 Accord. I've always been a "wait and see" person when it comes to a new make/model, but don't worry about this one-- go for it! No bugs.

Worst Car EVER DRIVEN
From day one this car has been a problem! It was delivered with an outward ding (factory installed), that the dealership happily fixed, then it was stalling every other time I put it into reverse, the dealership fixed after three visits, then there was the locking problem, that was fixed but is now back again, it has also been repainted on the bottom sills because the paint was just flaking off of the car, the blinkers often don't work and now there is a headlamp problem. I traded in a 99 with NO problems, I wish I had been as luck with this car.

By SgtBaxter on February 1 @ 11:00 am
I'm being realistic...
I love this car, but the faults of it really annoy me. The engine is the best in the world, hands down. I'm even getting around 27MPG, which is excellent. That said, the interior and build quality is really the weak point. For a $16,000 car, it's right on the mark. For a $22,000+ car that the 3.5 SE is, it's seriously lacking. I love the whole layout/style of the interior. It's just that the materials are cheap, and the fit and finish suck. The car is a BLAST to drive though. Great fun, and sexy as hell!

Awesome car for the money
I bought the car a month ago and can't stop enjoying driving it. Considered the accord and camry but altima offers way more for the money (paid 18200). The 4 cilinder offers very lively performance - cruises effortlessly at 85 mph. The design is outstanding. Nissan reliability is awesome(had a 96 altima for 6 years - not a single problem with 95000 miles on the odometer). Yes some plastic detailes have not yet been perfected in the interior but that is expected in the first year with a completely redesigned car. Altima just can't be beat at the price. Test drive one and you will see the difference. Way to go nissan.

Early Mid-Life Crisis Revenge
I have found the 2002 Altima to satisfy that craving to have a sporty car with zip while realizing I have to have room for my wife and son. Even the 4 cylinder is quiet yet responsive. Interior offers plenty of space and good trunk space as well. Nissan's strong performance history and fully adjustable "race-car" driving compartment was also a selling factor for me. But truthfully, the primary feature which drew me to the Atima was the beautiful exterior, crowned by the jeweled rear lights which are classy and reflective of a generation gone by.

Is it just looks?
Altima 2002 is a good car and fun to drive but has a couple of problems: My brakes don't work properly and there is air in them but dealership says that is "the nature of the beast". Only showed up after 10,000 miles. The interior seats and consoles have been adjusted couple of times becasue they were not well put together. It is fun to drive and nice looking but PLEASE watch for the problem in your brakes!!!

The exterior styling and colors are outstanding! The Bose sound system, sunrf, ABS, Traction control and 3.5 engine performance are hard to beat for under $25k. The ride is comfortable but steering is a bit too light at higher speeds (80+). But lots of room (I'm 6'4 1/2") with room to spare. Getting 26.5mpg which is great based on the speeds I've been averaging!

This is the best car I have ever owned!
I've only had this car for a week and I already love this car. I have no complaints, the car handles and looks great. Every day people are telling me how great the car looks. I can't think of a car both American or Asian that is a better value. I was debating between a manaul and automatic transmision, I'm very happy with the automatics performance. I would definitely recommend this vehicle.

Overall, a great car for the money. Fun to drive, fast, comfortable, roomy interior, and great looks outside. Catches a lot of attention!

Not Having Fun Anymore!
The car's engine performance is superb and very responsive even with the A/C on. Lots of cheap plastic. Gear shift console broke in the first week (it was held together by DUCT TAPE inside) and the dealership still does not have the replacement part. Shifting gears is a bit harsh. Wind noise is very loud esp. from the sunroof. Some other items are also defective. I expect to be going back and forth to the delearship at least four more times before everything gets fixed. If my Honda Accord had this car's engine I would not have thought of trading it in for this one. The car is fun to drive, but that's just about it.

Totally happy!
I bought my 2002 V-6 Altima in mid- April, coming out of a 1995 Cadillac Seville SLS. There are only a couple of features that I miss, but otherwise have been totally happy with this car. Very fast, with great features. I can see why this was voted North America's Car of the Year!

This car is everything you could ask for. If you need performance then this car is ready to take you for a ride. It has plenty of room for 4 adults and their baggage for a trip and enough room for 5 adults for a night out. If you have children and don't want a van then this is the car.

A great value
As a tall person, there is plenty of leg room for me and the person sitting in back of me. I traded in a 92 Camry for this. The new Camry does not have the legroom of the Altima. Love the design of the car. Lots of pickup for a 4 cylinder car. Getting 27-29 mpg highway.

By Tarzan on February 16 @ 11:00 am
Outstanding
This is the most wonderfull car i never had. Since 1 bought it may 2002, i had No problems. The car is very fast, lost of style and very well equiped for the price. Its is a sport sedan that beats up very easly, the Honda accord, pontiac Grand Am, Grand prix GT, toyota camry and others.

By airforce on August 8 @ 11:00 am
Beautiful
The first car was the Mazda 626. The 626's V6 170 hp engine was seriously lacking power for its weight. Although it did have a close ratio 5spd manual which did have good usage of the power it still is not powerful. Next, I test drove the Volkswagen Passat. While the car is extremly practical their are too many of them out on the road and they look too generic. Same problem with the Honda Accord. Every one and their mother owns a honda accord. Then, I test drove the Chrysler sebring Lxi. Good car but, lacking in power and room. The trunk is small for the size of the car. Drove the Altima. With 240hp and 246lb ft torque it beats the others

By ultimate on August 8 @ 11:00 am
Ultimate
Ultimate Altima, great sporty looking car with a quick 4 cylinder engine. Very comfortable ride, although wind noise in drivers door which can be corrected at Dealer. There is a hole in the drivers door that they fill. Otherwise very quiet, great on gas.

Altima Shakes & Noisy
My new Nissan 2.5S Altima shakes uncontrollably between 60 - 75 mph. I have already had tires re-balanced. Still a major problem. Also, if a back window is open the road noise sounds like a jet taking off. Oh yeah, the sheet metal is missing under driver's feet. What a mess. I am now making another trip to the dealer Bill Cook.

By car-man on January 29 @ 11:00 am
Altima hits a "home-run"
Wonderful improvement over the old Altima for the performance and styling lovers. The 3.5 is sweet and the body styling is unique. A fun car to drive and gets plenty of attention. Can`t wait to see what is coming out of the updated Maxima stable. Good value for the base car, but too costly to get to the sunroof.(no a-la-carte option here)

By Beaz on October 25 @ 11:00 am
Fast, Fun, and Sexy
I have had my 02 3.5 Altima for almost a year, and I can honestly say I still have as much fun driving it now as when it was new. The Camry (which I sell for a living) doesn't even come close to the feel, and I love the attention I get while driving it. It was well worth the wait to find the 5spd. The road noise is a little higher than I like but the stereo more than makes up for it. Great car, but a built in radar detector previously mentioned by someone else wouldn't be a bad idea. It's easy to go well over the limit and not even know it.

By Kenny D on October 25 @ 11:00 am
AWESOME Car
I haven't bought an Altima yet but have rented several of the 4 cylinder automatics from Budget and I have to say that I will be buying one soon. I have never considered a 4 cylinder before but after experiencing this 4 cylinder I'm not even interested in the V6 anymore. VERY fast, handles great and good on gas. I cruised several times from LA to San Fran at 85mph with the A/C and cruise going and it still had power to spare. I would buy one in a heartbeat (and will!!)

By jemathew on July 21 @ 11:00 am
My dream car!
I love this car! It's stylish, zippy, yet larger than the average sports car. There's plenty of room for 4 (or even 5) adults -- lots of legroom in the backseat. The trunk is huge, the interior is beautiful. It gets pretty good gas mileage for a car its size (I probably drive 60% city/ 40% highway on average and get about 23 mpg). And it's so much fun to drive!

By preciosa on April 17 @ 11:00 am
You need to own one too...
I just got the car a couple days ago, silver with grey leather, moonroof, splash guards, spoiler, etc.... Always drove SUV's took my Dad's suggestion to test drive one and boy and I am glad that I did. This car is comfortable, looks great and gets awesome gas mileage. I love the smooth ride of this car while using the Bose in dash 6 cd- changer (sound system sounds sooooo good!!!) Great car, extremely happy with my purchase.

Didn't want a big SUV, and didn't want a little 2 seater, but wanted something in between. This fits the requirements very nicely. Fine acceleration and yet very roomy. Has some of the handling capabilities of my previous 2 seater and much of the load carrying ability of my P/U truck. Overall, a good choice, I think.

Fun to drive and to own
When I first saw the new Altima, I knew I had to have one. It's so stylish that I thought immediately that it was a Lexus. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that it wasn't, and that it was instead a car that I could actually afford to own. The performance is out of this world!

2002 Nissan Altima 3.5SE
Excellent power, lots of room front and back for folks over 6 feet tall. I am 6'4" and have plenty of room even behind the driver's seat with the seat positioned for me to drive. Great visibility, good handling. Would handle better if RWD or AWD. Cup holders are not real convenient. Turning radius is not tight. Guages are hard to read in certain lights.

Great choice for a fun family car!
Although our experience is brief, (car purchased 8-31-02) we can't say enough about this car! The ride is so smooth, the interior very accomodating, and the extras are wonderful. Great trunk space for a stroller and the child safety options are great and up to date. The radio/cd player is more than adequate-we didn't opt for the Bose-and love the extra large cup holders.

By jblaze13 on February 5 @ 11:00 am
Excellent Package
This is a really nice car. The 4 cylinder has plenty of power for most needs. In comparison to a similarly equipped camry, you can see the difference in materials used on the interior. The camry has better interior materials. The light color for the readouts is a bit weird but you get used to it. Overall, this is an excellent vehicle. The leather seats are very comfortable. The ride is excellent, very similar to the camry's ride that has been hailed so much. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Happy Deal
I purchased my 2.5S Altima in June and I am very happy. Lot of power for a 4 cyl. car. The has a plenty of enterior space, lot's of trunk space. I am impressed with base stereo that it came with. The upholstery could be a little better...but you can't get everything for under 20K. I got a great deal through the internet.

By 03RxAlty on September 27 @ 11:00 am
Chose Altima over Maxima
Altima: 5 speed; 245 hp; new styling; independent rear suspension; bigger; less expensive; moderate fit/finish interior Maxima: 6 speed; 255 hp; dated styling (makeover pending); beam rear susp.; smaller; more expensive; better fit/finish interior I thought that I got more for my money with the Altima since the performance was equivalent, and there were more pluses with the Altima. BTW, my other car is a 97 Maxima.

A true world-class midsize competitor.
When preparing to graduate from college and deciding which car to purchase as my first brand-new car, I considered the Passat, Maxima and Camry in addition to the Altima. At first I was not sure if I wanted to get the Altima. After being persuaded to take it for a test drive, I fell in love with it. The 4 cylinder engine has impressive accelleration and fuel economy. The seats are comfortable and everything is well-placed. For the price, it could not be beat.

By Baltazar on June 24 @ 11:00 am
Great speed and only good looks!!!
I bought my altima when first came out. Traded a Honda for a Nissan and I was very happy at first. Then Brake problem(Air in the brakes) came up. I have a problem driving 50 or 60 because steering wheel starts shaking... Nissan will not fixed brake problem. They say that is just normal!!! You can try to see in your car by driving slowly and pushing the brake half way through, then once you get the feeling once you will notice over and over again and will drive crazy because brakes feels like it has air in lines. Other than that is fast, stereo is great.

By DIBIASE on September 10 @ 11:00 am
BANG FOR THE BUCK
i LOVE THIS VEHICLE. ONLY GRIPE IS THE INTERIOR, BUT EVERY CAR HAS SOMETHING TO GRIPE ABOUT, TRUST ME. THE ACCELERATION EVEN ON THE 4 CYLINDER IS VERY LIVELY, I LOVE THE RIDE AND THAT GATED SHIFTER THING LOOKS SO MUCH SWEETER AND SPORTIER THAN THAT OLD REGULAR SHIFTER IN THE CAMRY AND ACCORD. THE ALTIMA REALLY SHINES WITH ANY ALLOY WHEELS, SPOILER AND FOG LIGHTS TO GO WITH IT. PUT SOME TINT AND YOUR ALTIMA WILL BE OFFICIAL.

I've had this car for a almost four months now and I'm still in love with it! It turns heads every where I go, and handles and drives great. Can't tell you how many people have stopped me and asked questions about the car and made comments about how great it looks and that they want one. I also love passing BMW's on the road. I also see more of them on the road everytime I'm out driving.

Let's see... There's the Camry (boring), Accord (boring), Passat (small, over priced, a little boring), and just about any American mid-size (boring and unreliable). Hmmm... Not a tough choice here. 2002 Altima 3.5 SE V6 : - Best Horsepower & Torque for its class - Most Room in it's class - Nissan Reliability - Best Exterior for its class - Acceptable Interior (could have done better here guys) - Fair priced if you negotiate a little - Fun, fun, fun to drive

Already having problems
I loved my 2002 Altima when I first bought it in June. It was fun to drive and a lot faster than my old car even though it is just a 4-cylander. But now, only 4 months later, I am having transmission problems, the center console is really difficult (the compartments are very hard to open and the arm rest doesn’t stick into place). Besides that, I find the Altima roomy and comfortable. The back doors open wider than the average car and are very easy to get out of.

Great car, superior handling, more fun to drive than the Camry (I know, we have one), and looks way better than the new 4-door Accord... although 2- door Accord does look good (but isn't a fair comparison).

By Marty Ball on February 9 @ 3:00 am

I can't seem to keep the miles down on it because it is so reliable, comfortable and economical. The handling and the brakes aren't the best in the S model, but the little 2.5 four literally flies down the road just fine. Lots of front seat, rear seat and trunk room. I got lots of compliments when it was the only one around last year.

I am a first time Nissan owner. I have always purchased Hondas in the past. I have enjoyed the drive on the new Ultima. It's handling is great, I like that it has more power considering it's a 4 cylinder vehicle. I bought it for it's sleek new lines and of course the color. It's definitely a fun drive on the open road.

V6 is the way to go
28k in just over a year and absolutely no problems at all. The VQ engine is reknown for reliability and the 240-hp is a tremendous workhorse. In day-to- day driving, the engine is smooth and pulls well. Passing acceleration at highway speeds is a breeze. The interior could be a bit better (make it like the Maxima), but fine for the first model year.

By dontbuynissan on March 23 @ 3:00 am
dont buy nissan
Donot buy nissan's new cars in their first year. i have this car for about an year now. 4 months later things start to fall apart in this. first the middle arm rest broke, then the leather covering around the shifter came off. after that the clutch started to make a squeaky sound. this has been a horrible experience for me both with the dealership and the car. also last week the shift knob came into my hand when i was changing gears and almost crashed my car.

By Snowflake on March 5 @ 3:00 am
Anyone else with WIND problems??
Great car, really euphoric to drive. Would improve the interior quality, as others have stated. Little dissapointed in the wind noise, but it's still fun to drive. Haven't read this complaint anywhere, but the car handles EXTREMELY poorly in windy conditions, almost dangerously difficult to handle. also, sometimes the transmission seems to stick.

I love it!!!
I love my Altima. It has new styling that I love. It is fun to drive; I don't mind running all the errands for our family business because my husband bought the car for me. Everyone looks at it and other 2002 Altima drivers I see give me the thumbs up sign and have big smiles on their faces like me. It has a lot of pickup when I need it and a lot of people mistake it for a Lexus. I always get great compliments from people and they always ask if it is as fun to drive as it looks. I say Hell ya!

A Big Disappointment
I was really looking forward to this car as a replacement for my 1995 Maxima, but I had to forget it. 1)The slight torque steer in my Maxima is absolutely outrageous in the Altima; driving this thing aggressively on anything but absolutely dry pavement would be suicide. 2) The interior material quality approaches a Yugo. Even the 3.5 liter has the worst interior quality ever. 3) The 3.5 has performance tires rims that fit snow tires - hello new rims and tires.

Nissan really did a great job redesigning this model. I love the new look of it and overall I love the car. This car has many options that a 40k sport luxury car would have. Even though the 175hp 4-banger is quick. If I had the chance to do it all over....go with the 240 V6. Worth the money!

This is a great car!
This is my first Nissan. I absolutely love my Altima! It is incredibly spacious and comfortable and fun to drive. I'm still only in my first year of ownership, so I can't speak to any long-term problems, but so far, everything works great. The ride is very quiet, allowing me to enjoy the vehicle's great sound system. The overall exterior of the car is also quite beautiful.

By dblind1 on January 9 @ 3:00 am
Great car with just a few bugs
I purchased the car in August and had 2000 miles on it before Sept 1. I'm up to 10500 miles and have had no reliability issues. This is the first real new car I have purchased, and I'm very pleased with it. PLENTY of power, but torque steer is BAD. There would be a few things that could improve the car but most of them are minor. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a sedan with plenty of passing power (and long drives). Very comfortable interior (although cheap materials). It doesn't handle as well as a Lexus IS 300 but it is $5000-$7000 cheaper.

No regrets with my 2002 Altima SE
My Altima has over 17,000 miles now and I enjoy it driving it as much as when I first got it. Living in the suburbs of a major city with plenty of winding roads through the country-side makes this vehicle a pure pleasure to drive. Finally got it right
We purchased a 2002 model 5 months ago. Since the date of purchase, the car has been serviced 6 times. We took the vehicle home, and the car had a strong pull. The dealership has aligned the front end 2 times, replaced struts, tires, and the wheel. That being said, the car has been very good on gas and quick with the 4 cylinder engine. My wife enjoys driving the car, and the space that is available. The car is a little noisy traveling on the interstate, but around town driving is good. Car averages 21 mpg in town and 27 highway. If you are in the market for a nice car that will not break the bank, take a look at the Altima. Just take a long test drive.

Catch me if you Can!
My ride is awesome! I got the 3.5 V6 back in Feb. of 2002 and I still dig it. I was waiting around to see what the 04 Maxima looks like and finally saw some pics. Nicer ofcourse but you could see that family resemblance so I'm cool with keeping the Altima. I take the freeway on a daily basis for my work commute, I luv working those lanes through traffic! Not too fun going home from Orange County to Corona Though...(traffics a parking lot). But then again it's a perfect time too show off my ride!

What a car!
Under the guise of buying a "family sedan" I chose the Altima over the Accord and Camry because it blows those cars away in performance. I keep reading about how cheap the interior is but I strongly disagree. My interior is terrific, as is the sound system, and everything else about the car.

By markyy on January 16 @ 3:00 am
surpasses extremely high expectations
After reading reviews here on Edmunds and other car sites, I narrowed down my search for a 4 door sedan between the Altima, Passat and Accord. THough I initially leaned towards the Passat, with its nice interior and good mileage,I liked the overall value the Altima gave me. Even with the premium package, whch included the Bose 8 speaker stereo, leather wrapped wheel, moon roof, and steering wheel controls, for the stereo and cruise control the Altima came in ~ 1 -2k cheaper than the similarly equipped Passat. After a test drive in the Altima, I was hooked. Overall, a great package for the money you pay.

By figgi01 on December 30 @ 3:00 am
So far so Good
So far I think I made a good purchase. The power is good for a I4, the interior room is great, the standard sound system actually uses Clarion speakers but wish the reciever wasn't so oddly shapped so it could be replaced with an aftermaket. Squeaks and rattles are my main concern with the car. The front suspension makes a squeaking noise when stopping down a hill and the rear suspension seems to rattle over bumpy roads. We will see how it holds up in the long run.

By Manny on September 25 @ 3:00 am
Great Car, Great Price
I am extremely happy that I chose an Altima 2.5S. This car is step above the usual family sedan. It feels more like a sports sedan (ie: BMW 5 series, Audi A6). While other reveiws seem to focus on the interior plastics etc. I'd take performance iver plastic any day. Also the front seat comfortability and adaption to each driver is better than any other car in its class. The 4 cylinder has incredible pep. and the suspension maintains a balanced ride. Put that with the incredible price that this car is going for you can't beat it. The Altima 2.5S is winner.

After a year of ownership...
...I couldn't be happier. The Altima has given me no complaints thus far. The only times I've been in the dealership have been for regular maintenance/oil changes. I love the engine -- plenty of punch for a 4- cylinder -- and the handling is great. And the amount of room in the interior and the trunk is terrific. Sure, they skimped a little on the interior materials, but they spent the money on the right stuff. This car truly is built for drivers!

You don't need an SUV for leg room
This car is extremely spacious... It can hold up to six (small) peolple comfortably! It has a pretty big fuel tank so if your concerned about $$$ in gas-- this may not be for you. It's very sporty, stylish yet conservative and not too trendy. I plan on keeping this car for five years and then passing it on to my son when he gets in highschool. Highly recommended for all types of drivers.

Not Exactly Happy
I was really taken aback when I realized how terrible it handled in snow/icy conditions. It slid and slid, and the ABS made huge sounds but never stopped the car. Never felt safe in snowy/icy weather after that. The fabric on the seats attracts so much dog hair and yet our dogs have never even been in the car. And you can't get the hair out. Twice in a year we've had to take it to the dealership because the memory in the computer system goes out and all the radio settings, clock, etc. have to be re-set.

By beetle662 on October 17 @ 3:00 am
Very Nice Car
Have had this car over a year now, it has been wonderful. Only problem was a sensor for the air conditioner last summer, but that was covered by warranty. Standard maintenance is a bit pricey using Nissan's guidelines (which I suggest that you do), but that comes with any vehicle. Opted for the 5 speed manual, which is comfortable and provides more pop to the I4 engine. Plenty of "giddyupandgo"! Abundance of interior room (the main reason we bought this car instead of the Sonata, Taurus, et al). Some of the interior features are cheap... the fuel fill release on the floor looks like an after thought. Some minor squeeks which are unexplained.

The Altima is a really good all-around car. It's huge and has lots of space, has a really big trunk, has one of the best car stereos ever (BOSE system), and possesses an insane motor. Rear seat room rivals that of larger cars. The only problem is build quality. There’s no denying the fact that it is bad. Wood texture on dash is so hideous that I had it removed. There is a massive amount of noise in the interior. If you drive on a wet road, it sounds like you are driving in a swimming pool. The car pings. To solve this problem, I drive really fast and accelerate a lot so that the noise of the engine cancels out the interior squeaks ;-)

Very Happy...so far
After 10+ months I am very happy with the Altima 2.5 S. Owned all Honda's in the past, and was a little worried about Nissan's reliability. Very fun car to drive, nice stereo, and you can't beat the looks on this car. Mine is Super Black with the convenience package, and it looks very sharp when it's all shined up. I really hope this car proves to be as reliable as my Accord was. It's a shame Honda makes such bland looking cars these days (even the new accord), otherwise I might have purchased another instead of the Altima.

Altima - 2002 Gold
I have owned Nissans for years including a 96 Altima. This one is great! Very roomy, more than my Maxima, especially in the back seat. A little under powered with the 4 cyl, but am getting 25 - 27 in town commute (surface streets, not freeway). If you looking for a great, comfortable car at a great price, this is it.

Altima SL
Like many others, I have noticed the same shortcomings: excessive wind noise, poor interior quality, and some build/design issues. my rear drivers side door doesnt close easily, may be slightly off alignment, but havent taken it back to the dealer yet.

A blast!
Loved the abdundance of thrust and power throughout the rev range. The engine was sweet. The torque steer was kind of scarey though especially when the roads were damp and one had to tred lightly as a result. The manual stick was vague and made rowing the gearbox somewhat a chore and I had trouble making smooth changes .The build quality was chintzy and cheap especially the interior with the manual boot and cup holder needing replacement before 8000miles. At 9000miles the clutch gave out and needed replacement.

Long term update
We bought the first new Altima sold in our city in the fall of 2001. We have owned Hondas and Toyotas previously, but fell in love with the new Altima. After a year-and-a-half of ownership, we couldn't be more pleased. The car has been 100% reliable, it is very comfortable to drive and to ride in. It remains solid and the interior doesn't even show any wear (the seat fabric does collect some lint and hair, but a sticky lint brush cleans it up quickly). If I had to replace it I would buy another one just like it. We are very happy we chose it over the new Camry.

This 240HP Altima Rocks!
If youre thinking about purchasing a Altima and can't decide between the 4 cylinder or the 6 cylinder - like I was - don't even think any further - go with the 240HP 6 cylinder. It is so much fun to drive and the 0-60 mph is faster than a GT V8 Mustang! Some people complain about the torque steer don't worry about it! Just hold onto the wheel. I really wanted a fully loaded new Altima. But, the price is right around $30,000 and I couldn't afford it - so I searched the net and found a fully loaded black Altima nearby with 12,000 miles for in the low low $20's.

Happy New Honda Owner!!
Purchased the 2.5s 5spd. in 11-2002. aside from the several recalls, we had to have the oxygen sensor, camshaft sensor and fuel cap replaced. that was after it left my wife stranded. died 2 times in the middle of driving. had to be towed to the dealer for repair. nissan was not pleasant to deal with at all! wouldn't recommend nissan at all. should have listened to my gut when i bought it, and gone with the HONDA then. just bought a '03 Accord EX 5spd. LOVE it!! there is absolutely no comparison between the two. the accord is like climbing into a lexus after the nissan! really! every single aspect of the honda is better in my eyes, wallet and piece of mind!

Very Nice
Overall an outstanding mid-size car. 4 cylinder engine has excellent power. Handling is great - standard tires aweful. Upgrade and you'll find a big benefit. Exterior is awesome. Interior provides excellent room(6'2"). A blast to drive and we drive the automatic!

Problems
Interior ergonomics design is awful. E.g. dashboard is invisible from passenger site. CD panel is invisible under bright sun because of it's angle to the driver. Cruise control doesn't work for speed over 90 mph. There was a problem with transmission when driver over 100 mph - it starts to shift randomly. During hot weather all dashboard guages died while car still ran - happend couple times.

Altima is number 1
I've had this car for almost 2 years now and I'm still in love with it! It turns heads every where I go, and handles and drives great. The 2002 Altima 3.5 SE V6 : - Best Horsepower & Torque for its class - Most Room in it's class - Nissan Reliability - Best Exterior for its class - Excellent Leather Interior - Super Quality BOSE sound system. Best price at John Elway Nissan (In less than 3 hours I was on my way out the door).

This car ROCKS!!!
I bought this car after a neighbor bought a 2.5S. I had a decked out Focus that I was planning on slamming till I saw his ride and found out it came with a 3.5l V6 w/ a 5 speed! I got the car a month later and paid the same price I paid for the Focus with 100 fewer horses under the hood. Needless to say it was icing on the cake when I test drove the Altima and found I wasn't rubbing elbows with my passenger and my daughter was no longer able to kick the back of my seat! This car has ROOOOOOM to just "be" and enjoy the drive! It is surprisingly easy on the gas too. In fact, I get 24 city and 28 highway.....slightly BETTER than the Focus!!!!

WOW!! What a Car
This is the BEST car I've ever owned (and less expensive than others) VERY ergonomically designed (wish fog lamps were standard) Drives like a DREAM with outstanding syle. Lots of compliments and inquiry's. Alway told people to NEVER buy from Gwinnett Nissan (they tried SO hard to screw me -- but failed) Awesome car -- GREAT VALUE!! My check engine light has been on since 36K and the dealer can't figure out why??? (I'm now at 80K) still runs like a dream.

Handles great, a blast to drive. Plagued with problems. This car has burned oil from the day I got it. Two service managers and the GM agree it should have a long block. I have had this problem tracked by driving to the dealer every 500 miles for documentation. Nissan won't stand behind their car. I should've stayed with Toyota!

No first year problems with 02
When I purchased the 2002 Altima, I wondered how much risk I was taking with a first edition new model. I have owned the Altima for approximately 20 months and have been had no problems with any aspect of this vehicle. As with many other reviewers and critics, the interior and some of the interior assemblies have a feeling of "value engineering", or cost cutting. But all in all, this has been a very solid car.

2002 Altima Review
Great car overall. Since I bought the car about a year ago, I have had to replace the boot on my shifter, because it came apart, and I have had to get the black part of my window repaired twice. Wish the dealership was a little better. Have gone there along time, since they changed owners they have been going down hill. The car handles great, I wish they offered sunroofs in the 2.5S, that is all I wanted when I bought my car, but I could not afford to go up the next step.

2.5SL Altima Silver
I searched for months on what type of vehicle to buy, I went from a coupe, to SUV, to truck, and then I was online searching in the sedans category, I never realized they had redesigned the Altima. I bought it for the realibity, it has 20,000 miles on it. I bought it from a peronal owner with 11,000 miles on it. I love it!

My dream car exceeded expectations
I've driven many different cars & minivans for 20 years. I drove an Altima once and found its handling superior to anything I knew - so when I went to buy my next car I had to try the new model Altima. Now almost two years later I still smile each time I get in it - it was the best decision I've made in a long time. It still handles crisply, hugs the road on corners, brakes and accelerates responsively, is very roomy and comfortable - while looking and feeling sharp. The interior has maintained like new. This is an excellent car and a delight to drive - all distances and in all weathers. Not a single problem.

Nice car
Great car. Nice ride, quiet on the road. Surprising power from a 4-cyl. engine. Car has 21,000 miles and no reliability problems. Car is a real head turner, I have received many nice unsolicited comments about the styling. Getting 23 mpg in extreme city driving, averaged 29 mpg highway on recent 1,500 mile round trip.
